PM Modi Launched Pravasi Teerth Darshan Yojana



Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pravasi Teerth Darshan Yojana under which a group of Indian diaspora will be taken on a government-sponsored tour of religious places in India twice a year.

  • All people of Indian-origin aged 45 to 65 can apply and a group will be selected out of them with first preference given to people from 'Girmitiya countries' such as Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica.

  • Prime Minister Modi, during his visit in New Delhi, also inaugurated Centers of Excellence at Deen Dayal Hastkala Sanku. He also released two books – 'Kashi: The Universe of Crafts and Textiles' and 'Indian Textiles: History, Splendour, Grandeur'.


2nd World Integrated Medicine Forum 2019 starts in Goa

The 2nd World Integrated Medicine Forum 2019 on the Regulation of Homeopathic Medical Products held in Goa. AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik inaugurated the three day forum. 20 countries will participate in the event.

  • This forum will strengthen regulatory framework worldwide, to assure that the users of Homoeopathy could have wider access to quality-assured homeopathic medicines.


2-Day Global Investors Summit begins in Chennai

The two-day Global Investors Summit, being organised by Tamil Nadu government, is underway in Chennai. It is being participated by about five thousand delegates from industries in India and abroad.

  • Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy in his inaugural address said the state government would soon unveil e-vehicle policy to give a boost to electric vehicles manufacturing in the state.

  • In the inaugural event, the Adani Group Chief Executive Officer Karan Adani committed an investment of 12 thousand crore rupees in its Kattuppalli port expansion project.


IAFTX 2019 to be held in Pune in March

With the aim to synergise humanitarian mine action and joint peace operations, the Indian Africa Field Training Exercise (IAFTX) will be held in Pune from March 18 to 27.

  • Delegates from Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Namibia, Mozambique, Uganda, Niger and Zambia are attending the conference.


Microsoft launches e-platform under Project ReWeave to help Handloom weavers

Microsoft India launched a new e-commerce platform ‘re-weave.in’ under project ReWeave to aid handloom weavers. The e-commerce platform would connect artisans to the buyers directly enabling them to expand to newer customers and markets.

  • Project ReWeave was initiated by Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt. Limited in 2016 as part of its Philanthropies efforts, with the aim to revive the handloom weaving ecosystem in India.


Navy Chief commissions Naval Air Base ‘INS Kohassa’ at Diglipur in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba will commission the new Naval Air Base ‘INS Kohassa’ at Diglipur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The airbase will be used to handle operations of helicopters and small aircraft like the Dornier.

  • Now, the airbase will function as an independent unit. With the inauguration of INS Kohassa, Andaman and Nicobar Command will further strengthen its defence capabilities in the region.


India 4th most attractive investment market for global CEOs: PwC survey

CEOs' confidence in global economic growth has dipped dramatically by a record jump in pessimism but India has emerged as 'the rising star' by surpassing the UK to become fourth most attractive destination, a PwC survey said.

  • Released on the first day of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting, the survey also showed that China's popularity was falling among global CEOs but remained second most attractive after the US. However, both the countries saw their attractiveness dip sharply.

  • The US topped with 27 per cent, followed by China with 24 per cent and Germany at 13 per cent.

China to become world's biggest retail market in 2019: Report

China is set to overtake the United States as the world's biggest retail market in 2019. Research firm eMarketer in a report published predicted that China's total retail sales will grow 7.5 percent to reach $5.636 trillion in 2019, while that of the United States will grow 3.3 percent to $5.529 trillion.

  • By the end of 2019, China will have 55.8 percent of all online retail sales globally, with the figure expected to exceed 63 percent by 2022, according to the report.

  • It also predicted that the US' share of the global e-commerce market is expected to drop to 15 percent by 2022.

Johan Botha retires from all forms of cricket



South Africa all-rounder Johan Botha announced retirement from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. Botha played a total of 78 one day matches, scoring 609 runs with an average of 19.03 and scalping 72 wickets with an economy rate of 4.57.

Ravneet Gill to replace Rana Kapoor as YES Bank MD & CEO



YES Bank has appointed Deutsche Bank’s Ravneet Singh Gill as its MD and CEO, who will succeed Rana Kapoor. Gill, who is the CEO of Deutsche Bank’s India operations, will join the private lender on or before March 1, 2019.

BJP MP Anurag Thakur honoured with Sansad Ratna Award



Anurag Thakur, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha, was bestowed with Sansad Ratna Award for distinguished performance as a parliamentarian. He is the first MP from the BJP, besides being the only Member of Parliament from north India, to have been awarded the Jury Committee Special Award.

  • The Sansad Ratna Awards was set up in 2010 upon the suggestion of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who himself launched the first edition of awards in May 2010, with the purpose of celebrating the performers of Indian Parliamentarians.
