7th Economic Census begins from Tripura
The Government of India began the 7th Economic Census from Tripura. Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) will conduct the census. It will be conducted after a gap of 5 years.
  • The fieldwork is expected to be completed by December and the results at the national level is expected to be available by March 2020.
Girish Bapat appointed as chairman of estimates committee
Girish Bapat has been appointed the chairman of the "Estimates Committee" of the parliament. Estimates committee is one of the three financial standing committees of the parliament apart from the public accounts committee and committee on public undertakings.

Odisha Rasagola receives GI tag
Odisha has received the official recognition for its 'Odisha Rasagola' from the Geographical Indication (GI) of India.
  • Odisha had moved the GI Registry for GI tag for its own version of Rasagola after West Bengal was awarded the GI tag for its 'Banglar Rasagulla' in 2017.
Nepal invited as a partner country for Gita Jayanti Mahotsav 2019
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has invited Nepal to be the partner country for this year's 'Gita Jayanti Mahotsav 2019' scheduled to be held at Kurukshetra.
  • He extended the invitation to Ambassador of Nepal to India Nilamber Acharya.

Cars24 receives NBFC License to offer Vehicle Loans to Customers
Gurugram-based online used car marketplace Cars24 said that it has procured an non-banking financial company (NBFC) license from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and will be venturing into the consumer lending business. The company has formed a new entity — CARS24 Financial Services — for the same.

Khelo India Youth Games 2020 to be held in Guwahati
The 3rd edition of Khelo India Youth Games 2020 will be held in Guwahati. The Games will see a participation of more than 10,000 athletes and officials.
  • It will be conducted in partnership with Indian Olympic Association(IOA), School Games Federation of India(SGFI) & Assam as host State.
Nikoloz Basilashvili wins the German Tennis Championships
Nikoloz Basilashvili (Georgia) wins the German Tennis Championships. He defeated Andrey Rublev to successfully defend his title at the German Tennis Championships.
  • With the win, he has become first player to win the event in successive years since Roger Federer in 2004-2005.

Dr Vinayak S Hiremath, who is known for his exemplary work in the field of medicine and is the youngest doctor of Gulbarga (Karnataka), has been felicitated with the 'Pride of the Nation Award'.
  • The ceremony was held at NCC auditorium parade grounds in New Delhi on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Dr Vinayak S Hiremath was given this honour by the Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh.

Former Gujarat MP Vitthal Radadiya passed away recently. He was one of the Saurashtra’s most prominent politicians and was former Member of Parliament from Porbandar in Gujarat.

Meghalaya Assembly Speaker and former Meghalaya Chief Minister Donkupar Roy passed away.

Saudi Prince Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud passes away
Saudi Prince Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud passed away at the age of 96. Born in 1923, Bandar was the 10th and the eldest son of Saudi Arabia's founding monarch Abdulaziz Al Saud.

First printing press heritage gallery opened by Railway's The Western Railway General Stores Depot (GSD) has become the first in Indian Railways to opened a heritage gallery of the printing and allied machines used in the Western Railway Printing Press since (1948) at Mahalaxmi in Mumbai. Arunachal CM launches tree plantation programme Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh launched the statewide tree plantation programme ‘Clean-Green Arunachal Campaign 2019’ in Itanagar. Under this campaign State Forest department had planted 1-lakh tree saplings in 24 hours. Goa Government to start water taxi services soon In a first, the Goa government is planning to ply ‘water taxis’ in its inland waterways, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced.
  • He also said ferry boats operating on solar power would be introduced on different routes. Water taxis will be introduced for Panaji to Old Goa route with the help of experts.

Chandigarh gets BCCI affiliation Chandigarh received affiliation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) after nearly four decades.
  • After getting BCCI affiliation, Chandigarh Cricket Association-Punjab had recently decided to merge with Union Territory Cricket Association, thus paving way for the Union Territory to be recognised as a separate entity.

PM-LVMY Yojana launched by the Government The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has recently approved a new scheme called ‘Pradhan Mantri Laghu Vyapari Maan-dhan Yojana‘ that offers pension coverage to the trading community.
  • The main feature of PMLVM Yojana 2019 is that each subscriber of the scheme shall receive minimum assured lifelong pension of Rs 3000/- per month after attaining the age of 60 years.
Centre proposes 'Metrolite' train for small cities The Centre has proposed light urban rail transit system - 'Metrolite' - in small cities and towns having lower projection of ridership, with each train having three coaches and a restricted speed of 25 kmph.
  • The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has issued standard specifications of the 'Metrolite' system which will be developed on surface and elevated stretches.
  • According to the ministry, the 'Metrolite', which can be developed at a lower cost in comparison with existing metro system, will also act as feeder system to high capacity Metro.
GST rate on electric vehicles reduced from 12% to 5% GST Council has decided to reduce GST rate on electric vehicles (EV) from 12% to 5% and 18% to 5% on EV chargers from August 1, the Finance Ministry announced. Moreover, the council also approved exemption from GST on hiring of electric buses by local authorities. This follows government announcing ₹1.5-lakh income tax deduction on loan interest for purchasing EVs. UP becomes No. 1 in implementation of Pradhanamntri Suraksha Beema Yojna Uttar Pradesh has become number one in implementation of Pradhanamntri Suraksha Beema Yojna in the country. As per the statement released by state government 1.95 crores people have been given insurance cover under the scheme till 31 march 2019. Gujarat tops in solar rooftop installations In the area of solar rooftop installations, Gujarat has stood first in the country with total 261.97 megawatts (MW) of installed rooftop solar capacity as on July 23, 2019. As per the Central government data, total rooftop solar installations in India is 1700.54 MW. Delhi among cheapest cities to relocate: Moving Price Index 2019 German online moving company, Movinga has revealed its International Moving Price Index for 2019. The 2019 Moving Index, a study of 85 cities, found which are the costliest cities to start afresh in.
  • According to its International Moving Price Index for 2019, San Francisco is the most expensive city to move to.
  • Delhi is among the world's cheapest cities to move to. Delhi was ranked 85th in terms of individual relocation.

India's GDP growth to be flat at 6.8% in FY20: Report The economy will not be able to achieve the official forecast of 7 percent growth in FY20, making it a second consecutive year of sub-7 percent expansion, according to a  report by Singaporean lender DBS.
  • It estimated FY20 growth to stay at 6.8 percent, the same as FY19. The economic survey earlier this month had pegged growth to rise to 7 percent.
NITI Aayog partners with WhatsApp to promote women entrepreneurs NITI Aayog and Facebook-owned WhatsApp, under the aegis of its Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP), have announced a partnership to support the growth of a robust ecosystem to promote women entrepreneurs in India.
  • WhatsApp, in collaboration with NITI Aayog, will announce an annual calendar of events aimed at capacity building of women entrepreneurs and develop specific programmes aimed at addressing challenges faced by women entrepreneurs. The initiative would target the registered users of WEP.
Reliance Industries become India’s highest-ranking company in the “Fortune Global 500 list 2019” Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has become the top-ranked Indian company to feature in the latest “Fortune Global 500 list 2019” with a jump of 42 places. It ranked 106 in the list.
  • Reliance Industries (RIL) overtakes state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), which had been the top-ranked Indian company on the list and was first on the Fortune India 500 list which was started in 2010.
