Cabinet nod to integrated e-filing and centralised processing centre

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved Rs 4,241.97crore for integrated e-filing and centralised processing centre--2.0 Project-of the Income Tax Department.

Delhi launches round-the-clock animal healthcare service

Delhi government inaugurated a round-the-clock Animal Health Care Services in a Government Veterinary Hospital in Tis Hajari and also a helpline number 011-23967555 for animal health care assistance.

  • It is the first 24x7 animal health care service in a government veterinary hospital.


First National Sports Meet for Tribals organised in Hyderabad

The first National Sports Meet 2019 for Tribals was organised by the Ministry of Tribal Welfare in Hyderabad, Telangana.

  • Tribal children of Ekalavya Model Residential Schools from 20 states participated in the program.


Mukti Caravan campaign launched to make Kumbh child-friendly festival

Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation (KSCF) and the Mayor of Prayagraj jointly launched Mukti Caravan with the aim of making Kumbh a child-friendly festival.

  • Mukti Caravan is a grassroots campaign on wheels to free children from all forms of exploitation.

  • The campaign is part of the nationwide movement of the Foundation and aims to generate awareness among masses on issues of child trafficking, child abuse and child labour.

RBI relaxes external commercial borrowing norms

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a new framework for external commercial borrowings (ECBs) and rupee-denominated bonds in a bid to improve ease of doing business.

  • As per the new framework, all eligible borrowers can now raise external commercial borrowings up to $750 million or equivalent per financial year under the automatic route, replacing the existing sector-wise limits.

  • It also set the minimum average maturity period at three years for all external commercial borrowings irrespective of the amount.

  • Previously, the RBI had only allowed companies to borrow up to $50 million for three years. For funds beyond $50 million, companies had to borrow for at least five years.

Bengaluru is the world’s most dynamic city among 131 major established and emerging business hubs globally, followed by Hyderabad, according to the sixth City Momentum Index published by JLL.

At 35, Siddhanta is world's youngest mountaineer to climb 7 volcanic peaks

Well-known mountaineer Satyarup Siddhanta, 35, conquered Antarctica's highest point, Mount Sidley, to become the youngest man in the world to have climbed the seven highest volcanic peaks, besides other summits.

  • Last year, he scaled Pico de Orizaba which is the highest volcanic peak in North America.

  • He holds the record of conquering several summits such as Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mt Elbrus in Europe, Mt Denali in Alaska and Mt Monc Blanc in France.


Chennai’s Gukesh Crowned India’s Youngest Grandmaster

12 year old Tamil Nadu boy, D Gukesh became the youngest Grand master in India and second in the world. He achieved this feat by beating D K Sharma at 17th Delhi International Open Chess tournament in Delhi.

Senior advocate Sanjay Jain appointed as Additional Solicitor General in SC

President Ram Nath Kovind appointed senior advocate Sanjay Jain as the Additional Solicitor General in the Supreme Court of India.

  • Notably, Additional Solicitor General, appointed under Law Officers Act 1987, is the third largest law officer of the Central Government.

Government confers Gandhi Peace Prize for 2015-2018

The government announced winners of the Gandhi Peace Prize for four years beginning 2015 to 2018.

  • Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, gets the award for 2015 for their contribution in rural development, education, development of natural resources.

  • For 2016, it has been jointly given to Akshaya Patra Foundation for its contribution in providing mid-day meals children and Sulabh International for its contribution in improving the condition of sanitation and emancipation of manual scavengers.

  • Ekal Abhiyan Trust has won the award for 2017 for their contribution in providing education for rural and tribal children in remote areas, rural empowerment, gender and social equality

  • Yohei Sasakawa for 2018 for his contribution in leprosy eradication.
