Yogi, South Korea's first lady Kim-Jung Sook inaugurate Queen Huh Memorial



South Korean first lady Kim-Jung Sook and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Queen Huh Memorial at Queen Huh Park in Ayodhya.

  • On her arrival, Sook received a warm welcome by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya and others. She arrived in India on a four-day visit.


Faizabad to be known as Ayodhya: Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district will be known as Ayodhya after the temple town that is home to the Ram temple, said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He also announced a medical college named after King Dashrath, Ram’s father, and an airport to be called Raja Ram.

  • The demand that the government rename Faizabad picked pace soon after the government decided to rename Allahabad as Prayag last month.


Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium Renamed After Atal Bihari Vajpayee



Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government renamed the newly-constructed Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The stadium will now be known as 'Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium'. The stadium has a seating capacity of around 50,000.

India, Malawi sign MoUs in Extradition Treaty, Atomic Energy and VISA Waiver

India and Malawi signed three MoUs on extradition, cooperation in atomic energy and visa waiver for diplomats and officials as Vice President Venkaiah Naidu met Malawian President Arthur Peter Mutharika and held wide-ranging talks in Lilongwe, Malawai.

  • India will also extend a new Line of credit of 215 million US dollars to Malawi for 18 water projects.

India, South Korea Sign MoU on Cooperation In Sports

India and South Korea signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in sports in New Delhi. Sports Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea Do Jong-hwan signed the MoU.

  • The objective of the MoU is to establish a framework to facilitate and promote cooperation between the two countries on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit.

St Petersberg to hold first Russia-India strategic dialogue

The first Russia-India Strategic Dialogue will take place in the Russian city of St Petersburg on November 25 and 26. The key event of the business program will be a plenary session featuring Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin and Vice Chairperson of the National Institution for Transforming India Dr Rajiv Kumar.

  • The participants of the conference will attend five roundtables dedicated to agriculture, small- and medium-sized business, transport, industrial cooperation and digital transformation.


Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal opens Signature Bridge for public



Delhi's long-awaited "Signature Bridge",the first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge in India was opened for the public. The 575-metre bridge was inaugurated by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. The project aims to reduce travel time and traffic congestion between the north-eastern and northern parts of the national capital.  It will share the burden of the Wazirabad bridge and connect the Outer Ring Road on the western bank of the river with Wazirabad Road on the eastern side.

  • The bridge, built over the Yamuna River, also includes a glass-steel observation deck at the top of the bridge.


Odisha govt forms inter-ministerial panel to address farmers' issues

The Odisha government formed an inter-ministerial committee to resolve the issues raised by the agitating farmers in the ongoing protest in the state. A large number of farmers from across the state under the banner of Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) marched to Bhubaneswar to stage a demonstration demanding "Price, Prestige, and Pension".

  • The three-member committee, headed by Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera, will prepare terms of reference to discuss the demands of the agitating farmers.


'Mere Pyaare Prime Minister' only Asian film screened at Rome



Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's upcoming film 'Mere Pyaare Prime Minister' has been creating waves worldwide even before the release. The film that deals with the social issue of open defecation represented not just India but Asia at the Rome Film Festival.

  • Official Selection of the Rome Film Festival has presented three productions from three different continents. From Asia, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directorial 'Mere Pyaare Prime Minister' was screened in Sala Petrassi.


With 5462 beds, Patna Medical College to be world’s largest hospital



The Bihar cabinet gave its nod for the redevelopment of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) into a world’s largest 5462-bed hospital at an estimated cost of Rs 5540.07 crore. The hospital would be redeveloped by Bihar Medical Services & Infrastructure Corporation Ltd (BMSICL).

  • The PMCH was established in 1925. The hospital would be redeveloped in three phases in seven years.

    It would be world’s largest hospital having 5462 bed with 36 super speciality departments against the present eight super speciality department, Kumar said adding that the world’s largest hospital currently is in Belgrade with 3500 bed.

RBI Initiates Process To Set Up Digital Public Credit Registry

The Reserve Bank has initiated steps to set up a wide-based digital Public Credit Registry (PCR) to capture details of all borrowers, including wilful defaulters and also the pending legal suits in order to check financial delinquencies.
The PCR will also include data from entities like market regulator SEBI, the corporate affairs ministry, Goods and Service Tax Network (GSTN) and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) to enable the banks and financial institutions to get 360 degree profile of existing and prospective borrowers on a real-time basis.

  • The Reserve Bank has invited expression of interest (EOI) for developing the registry from companies with a turnover of over Rs 100 crore in the last three years.

  • As per the EOI, the proposed solution should allow easy integration with ancillory information sources, like the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Sebi, GSTN, CERSAI, utility billers, Central Fraud Registry and Wilful Defaulter/Caution/Suit Filed Lists.

Uzbek businessman Gafur Rakhimov was elected president of the International Boxing Association (AIBA). Rakhimov won 86 of the 134 second-round votes collected by AIBA officials in Moscow to beat his only opponent, former boxer Serik Konakbayev of Kazakhstan.

Anupam Kher gets 'Distinguished Fellow' award by US think-tank



Veteran actor Anupam Kher was honoured as a 'Distinguished Fellow' by IndiaGlobal - a leading think-tank that works on issues concerning non-resident Indians. The actor was given a fellowship on November 3, 2018 at the 3rd IndiaGlobal Summit. The event was held at the prestigious MIT Sloan School of Management in Boston, and was facilitated by MIT Sloan India Business Club.

  • Kher plays the role of a doctor in American TV show "New Amsterdam".


N Ram chosen for ‘Raja Ram Mohan Roy Award’ by PCI



Veteran journalist and the Hindu Group of Publications Chairman N Ram has been chosen for the prestigious Raja Ram Mohan Roy Award, presented by the Press Council of India, for his outstanding contribution towards journalism. The award will be presented on November 16 on the occasion of the National Press Day.

  • Council of India (PCI) also announced other winners of the National Awards for Excellence in Journalism 2018. Ruby Sarkar, Chief Correspondent, Deshbandhu, Bhopal, and Rajesh Parshuram Joshte, Daily Pudhari, Ratnagiri, have been jointly named as winners of the award in the category of ‘Rural Journalism’

  • Subhash Paul, Rashtriya Sahara, Delhi, was named as a winner of the award in the ‘Photo Journalism-Single News’ category, while Mihir Singh of the Punjab Kesari, Delhi has been selected in the category of ‘Photo Journalism-Photo Feature’.


Namrata Ahuja bags IPI-India Award for excellence in journalism 2018

The prestigious International Press Institute IPI India Award for excellence in journalism has been given to Namrata Biji Ahuja of The Week magazine this year. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a trophy and a citation.

  • The Indian Chapter of the IPI is an active forum of editors, publishers and senior executives of newspapers, magazines and news agencies, all of whom are members of the International Press Institute.


Argentine fan names rose after Lata Mangeshkar



A Lata Mangeshkar fan from Argentina, Santiago Lopez, who is a florist by profession, has named a rose in honour of the veteran playback singer. The 89-year-old melody queen, who was "deeply touched" by the gesture, revealed that Lopez, who is Spanish by birth, is learning Sanskrit, Hindi and Yoga. 

Actor Jayant Sawarkar to get Maha lifetime award for theatre

Noted Marathi actor Jayant Sawarkar will be honoured with the Maharashtra government's Natvarya Prabhakar Panshikar Lifetime Achievement award in the field of theatre.
The Sangeetacharya Annasaheb Kirloskar Lifetime Achievement will be bestowed on tabla artist Vinayak Thorat.

Bhajan singer Vinod Agarwal passes away



Bhajan singer Vinod Agarwal passed away. The singer died from multiple organ failure. He was 63. Born in New Delhi in 1955, Agarwal was a popular bhajan singer known for his imitable style of singing. He settled down in Vrindavan for his love of Lord Krishna.

  • He has to his credit more than 1500 live programmes across the country and has held shows in Singapore, Italy, Britain, Switzerland, France, Germany, Canada, Ireland and Dubai.


Veteran Meghalaya Photo-journalist Walton passes away

Veteran Meghalaya photo-journalist Walton Jyrwa Lytan passed away in Shillong after a brief battle with cancer. He was 52. He began his journey in photo journalism way back in the late 80s after a successful stint as the founding general secretary of the Hill Farmer’s Union, an organisation that till today continues to fight for the welfare and rights of farmers..

World Tsunami Awareness Day

The World Tsunami Awareness Day is observed every year across the world on 5 November to spread awareness among people across the world about Tsunami.

  • In 2018, the World Tsunami Awareness Day will align with the International Day for Disaster Reduction and the "Sendai Seven Campaign" and will focus on Target “c” of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction which aims at reducing direct disaster economic loss in relation to GDP.
