27th BASIC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change Held in New Delhi
The 27th BASIC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change has urged the advanced countries to enhance their support to the developing nations in effectively implementing the Paris Agreement to combat climate change. The BASIC countries comprise Brazil, South Africa, India and China. The two-day Meeting on Climate Change concluded in New Delhi.
- Chairing the meeting, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Harsh Vardhan elaborated on India’s initiatives to address the challenges of climate change.
- It resolved to promote low carbon transition to safeguard the future of mankind. Brazil will host the next meeting of BASIC in 2019.
IMD World Talent Ranking: India Ranks 53rd, Switzerland Tops
India slipped two positions to rank at 53rd position in a global survey released by IMD Business School Switzerland on fostering and attracting talent. In 2017, India was ranked at 55th position.
- Switzerland continued to be at the top spot, with no Asian country or even the US in the top 10 in the survey titled as ‘IMD World Talent Ranking 2018’.
- While Switzerland retained its top position for the fifth consecutive year on the list, Denmark, Norway, Austria and the Netherlands were ranked second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
India's First Justice City To Set Up In Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh is building a world-class and India's first 'Justice City' within its new capital Amaravati with the vision to provide a state-of-the-art ecosystem built on latest technology for supporting the judicial system in the state.
- Amaravati will be the first city in India to be home to the nation's first dedicated city on Justice. The Justice City is expected to generate employment for more than 1.3 lac people.
Andhra Pradesh Launches ‘Bhudaar’ Portal
Andhra Pradesh launched a web portal which makes land records available to people with unique identification numbers just like Aadhar number. The “Bhudaar’’ is an 11-digit unique identification code assigned to each agriculture land holding and rural and urban properties in the state.
- Launching the Bhuseva and Bhudaar web portal at Amaravati, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said, “The integration of verified and updated land records will end litigation and corruption in land records and prevent tampering.”
- The Bhudaar is an 11-digit unique identification code to be assigned to each agriculture land holding and rural and urban property. With this, the land records will be available to people on the lines of Aadhar card enabling the people to carry their land records in their pocket.
Himachal govt approves Sashakt Mahila Yojna
The Himachal Pradesh government in the cabinet meeting accorded its approval to implement Sashakt Mahila Yojna in the state with a vision to empower rural women by providing them an interface for organisation and socio-economic development.
- The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur in Shimla. The scheme not only envisages to link rural women with sustainable livelihood opportunities but also to improve their skill by imparting training.
- Besides this, the state Cabinet also approved the opening of a government Pharmacy College in Seraj area of Mandi district.
Bhubaneswar's 'Waste to Art' museum inaugurated
The First International Public Art Symposium (IPAS), jointly organised by the Artist Network Promoting Indian Culture (ANPIC), the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar.
- IPAS is the first open-air museum of waste-to-art where noted artists from 14 countries have come to participate and made different sculpture from waste materials and scraps.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of 1000 crore budgeted Shri Vishwakarma Skill University
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Vishwakarma Skill University at village Dudhola in Palwal from Sultanpur village in Gurugram district. A sum of over Rs 1,000 crore would be spent on setting up this Skill University, which would impart skill training to the youth and encourage them to be self employed.
- The University has signed MoUs with 21 industries for training of different courses. The construction work would be carried out in three phases and there is a plan to complete the first phase by 2020.
HRD launches Innovation Cell for research
Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the Institution's Innovation Cell (IIC) in New Delhi at the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) foster an attitude of research among students. More than 1,000 higher education institutes have already established IICs on their campuses to promote innovation.

UN Environment Chief Erik Solheim Resigns
UN environment chief Erik Solheim has resigned after an audit report found he had spent over $488,000 on excessive travel. Deputy Executive Director of UNEP Joyce Msuya, from Tanzania, will be appointed as acting executive director while the Secretary-General launches a recruitment process, in consultation with member states, to find a successor to Solheim.

Google launches new app Neighbourly
Neighbourly, which is specifically designed for the Indian market, will give hyper local information on neighbourhoods. This will be user generated content, similar to Quora.
- From information on plumber availability to tuition teachers' availability, Neighbourly is attempting to be an information repository for what Google calls its next billion users.
- Google is rolling out Neighbourly nationally starting with Bangalore and Delhi. Over the next few weeks, more cities will be added every day, including Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Indore, totally spanning 467 districts in India.

Bangladesh Wins 59th Edition of Subroto Cup Football Tournament
Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Prothishtan held their nerves in a tense final and overcame Amini School, Afghanistan, 1-0 to clinch the 59th edition of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament (Junior Boys category).
- Habibur Rahman netted the solitary goal in the match to help Bangladesh win the Under-17 school tournament, which was held at Dr Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi Gate, New Delhi. A total of 95 teams participated in the tournament, including eight teams from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.
- Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa, who was the chief guest, handed over the prize money to the captain of Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Prothishtan (BKSP).
Mary Kom makes history at World Boxing Championships
India's Mary Kom defeated China's Wu Yu 5-0 in the 48kg quarterfinals of the women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi. She is assured of a medal. Mary becomes the most successful medal winner in the Championship's history with seven medals across different weight categories.

INTERPOL elects new President
The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) elected South Korean Kim Jong Yang as its new President at the 87th session of the INTERPOL General Assembly in Dubai. Kim will hold the post till 2020.
- The new election comes after ex-INTERPOL chief Meng Hongwei was detained by China after he was reported missing since his travel to the country in late September.

WhatsApp appoints Abhijit Bose as its India head
Instant messaging service WhatsApp announced the appointment of Abhijit Bose as its India head. Bose will join WhatsApp in early 2019. WhatsApp said Bose and his team will focus on helping businesses, both large and small, connect with their customers.

Amitabh Bachchan honoured with Sayaji Ratna Award for contribution to social causes
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was awarded the third Sayaji Ratna Award, established in the memory of erstwhile Baroda ruler Sayajirao Gaekwad III.
- The Baroda Management Association had, in 2013, instituted the award to mark the 150th birth anniversary of the ruler, known for undertaking major social reform measures during his rule in the early twentieth century.
- Talking at a lunch ceremony organised at the banquet hall of the Laxmi Vilas Palace, Bachchan revealed that he had paid off the loans of several farmers from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Oscar-Winning Screenwriter William Goldman Passes Away
The Oscar-winning screenwriter and best-selling author William Goldman, known for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "All The President's Men", passed away. He was 87.
- He also wrote the novels and then the screenplays for Marathon Man (1976), Magic (1978) and the much-loved The Princess Bride (1987).
Congress MP from Kerala M.I.Shahnawaz passed away
Congress Working President in Kerala and Lok Sabha member from Wayanad, M.I. Shahnawaz passed away at a private hospital in Chennai. He was 67.
- Shahnawaz, a two time parliament member was ailing for sometime and was admitted at a hospital in the Tamil Nadu capital.
