President Kovind inaugurates Gyan Kumbh in Haridwar



President Ram Nath Kovind has stressed the need to impart quality education to the students. After inaugurating a two-day Gyan Kumbh at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar, He said that besides educating children, it is imperative on the part of teachers to inculcate good manners and character building in the students.

  • Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Higher Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat and Swami Ramdev were also present on the occasion.


India ranked 12 globally in web-borne threats: Kaspersky Lab

Globally, India ranks 12th when it comes to the dangers associated with surfing the web, according to a new report from Russia-based global cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab. About a third of Internet users in the country were attacked by web-borne threats between the July-September period of this year.

  • "Social engineering" was another form of attack that users in India frequently fell prey to. These attacks require user participation, with the user having to download the malicious file to their computer.


IAMAI Forms AR/VR Committee To Promote Technologies in India

With an aim to promote Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) technology to drive economic growth, job creation, and skill development in the country, The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has formed a new industry expert committee, under its Emerging Technology Council, focused on AR/VR.

  • The committee is chaired by Namrita Mahindro, Senior General Manager, Digital Transformation, Mahindra Group and co-chaired by Satyajeet Singh, Head Strategic Product Partnership, India & South Asia, Facebook.

Railway Ministry Launched ‘UTS on Mobile’ Facility

Railways’ UTS mobile app for buying unreserved tickets online is available nationwide. Buying unreserved tickets on all non-suburban sections across all zonal railways has been made available from 1 November, which will obviate the need for passengers to wait in queues.

  • The passenger has to be within a five-kilometre range of the source station to be able to buy a ticket through the UTS app. A passenger is allowed to book four tickets at a time. Via the app, a registered user can also buy platform tickets and monthly passes.

  • The facility to buy unreserved tickets, including season tickets and platform tickets, is available through ‘UTSONMOBILE’ app on Android, iOS and Windows phones.


Offshore patrol vessel ICGS Varaha launched



ICGS Varaha, the fourth in the series of 98 M offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) of Indian Coast Guard, was launched at L&T Kattupalli, Chennai, Tamil Nadu‎.

  • The 98 M OPV has been designed and built indigenously by Larsen & Toubro as part of the ICG shipbuilding contract for construction of seven OPVs awarded to L&T.

  • This ship will be fitted with advanced technology navigation and communication equipment, sensor and machinery.


Kolkata leads Ease of Moving Index 2018 with the most affordable public transport: OMI

Ola Mobility Institute (OMI), the research and outreach arm of Ola, one of the world's largest ride-hailing platforms released India's first Ease of Moving Index, 2018. As part of report findings, Kolkata ranks the highest in terms of affordability of public transportation with 80% of commuters finding Kolkata's public transport reasonable and affordable.

  • The report was released by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister, Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, in the presence of Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder and CEO of Ola.


13th Indo-Myanmar Regional Border Committee Meet concluded at Imphal

The three-day meet of 13th Indo-Myanmar Regional Border Committee between India and Myanmar was held at the Mantripukhari Garrison, Imphal under the aegis of Spear Corps of Indian Army.

  • The Indian delegation was headed by Lieutenant General Gopal, GOC of the Spear Corps, the Myanmar delegation was headed by Maj Gen Phone Myat, Commander of North West Command. They were accompanied by other civil and military officials of both the countries.

1st WHO Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health Held in Geneva

The first Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health will be held at WHO Headquarters in Geneva on 30 October - 1 November 2018. The conference responds to a World Health Assembly mandate to combat one of the world’s most significant causes of premature death, causing some 7 million deaths annually.

Atul Goel Takes Over As MD And CEO Of UCO Bank

Atul Kumar Goel assumed charge as Managing Director and CEO of UCO Bank. Prior to this assignment, he was executive director of Union Bank of India. Goel takes over from R.K. Takkar, who completed his three-year tenure on November 1, 2018.

  • Goel, who holds a Bachelor degree in Commerce, is considered one of the youngest and dynamic executives in the banking industry.


RBI allows banks to provide partial credit enhancement to NBFCs

The Reserve Bank of India, permitted banks to grant partial credit enhancement (PCE) to bonds issued by non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and housing finance companies, listed with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the National Housing Bank respectively.

  • RBI has allowed this to enable NBFCs to obtain funds from the bond market on favourable terms and to improve the bonds' credit rating.

  • PCE is expected to assist NBFCs, and housing finance companies raise money from provident or pension funds investing in highly-rated instruments and insurance.

  • The occupancy of these bonds should not be less than three years and shall only be used to refinance existing debt, states the central bank.

Kirloskar Capital gets RBI nod for NBFC biz

Kirloskar Capital, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kirloskar Oil Engines (KOEL), has received RBI licence to start a non-banking financial company (NBFC). The company plans to lend more than Rs. 1,000 crore over the next three years. The initial focus will be on lending to small and medium-sized enterprises by leveraging its distribution network.

The International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists is a UN-recognized day observed annually on 2 November. The day draws attention to the low global conviction rate for violent crimes against journalists and media workers, estimated at only one in every ten cases.

Army Aviation Day

Army Aviation Corps celebrated its 33rd Raising Day on 01 Nov 2018, and to mark this occasion, a Wreath Laying Ceremony was held at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate, New Delhi.
The ceremonial wreath was laid by Lieutenant General Kanwal Kumar, Colonel Commandant and Director General of Army Aviation, along with a host of serving officers, soldiers and veterans in attendance.

  • Army Aviation Corps is the aerial manoeuvre arm of the Indian Army and has played a stellar role by providing vital air support to our soldiers safeguarding the borders in addition to providing relief to the common man during times of natural calamity.
