Vice President Inaugurates Indian War Memorial in France



Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said that India contributed immensely to the war effort during the World War I as he inaugurated the Indian War Memorial at Villers Guislain in France.

  • The main motif of the Indian War Memorial at Villers Guislain is the Indian national emblem which consists of Ashoka lions along with a bronze wreath, plaque, and lances which have been designed in India.


Kerala govt scheme to provide free education to Ockhi-hit kids

The Kerala government has initiated a scheme to provide free education and vocational training to the children of those fishermen who died or went missing in the 2017 Ockhi cyclonic storm. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said 194 students have been identified as beneficiaries.

  • He also said Rs 13.92 crore would be allocated from the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund.

  • The scheme envisages a package of Rs 10,000 per year for children in classes from LKG to Class V, Rs 25,000 for children in classes 6 to 10, Rs 30,000 for higher secondary students and up to Rs 1,00,000 for students doing graduation. The project will continue till 2037.

Bihar govt approves Rs 25000 to every girl graduating

The Bihar cabinet approved a proposal to pay Rs 25,000 to every girl graduating in 2018 and onwards. The cabinet allotted Rs 300 crore for disbursal of this payment to an estimated 1.2 lakh girls expected to clear their graduation course this year.

  • The one-time payment will be made to every girl who graduates from the colleges of the state on or after April 25 this year irrespective of pass division, marital status, caste, community or religion.
    The scheme is part of a larger government scheme that aims to pay each girl Rs 54,000, including the payments made to her right from birth to graduation.

CCEA approves disinvestment of 100% Govt stake in Dredging Corporation of India

The Union Cabinet approved strategic sale of government stake in Dredging Corporation of India to consortium of four ports. The government currently holds 73.44 per cent in Dredging Corporation of India Ltd (DCIL).

  • CCEA has given in principle approval for strategic disinvestment of 100 per cent Government of India's share in DCIL to consortium of 4 ports, namely Vishakhapatnam Port Trust, Paradeep Port Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and Kandla Port Trust.

  • The government has budgeted to raise Rs 80,000 crore from PSU disinvestment.

Bajrang Punia becomes number one in world in 65 kg



Star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia touched a new high in his career by achieving the number one rank in the world in the 65kg category. The 24-year-old Bajrang, who has won five medals this season, including CWG and Asian Games gold and a silver at the World Championship, was placed atop the ranking table with 96 points in the United World Wrestling (UWW) list.

Saurabh won gold at Asian Airgun Championships



Saurabh Chaudhary added yet another feather to his cap as he beat compatriot Arjun Singh Cheema by 2.1 points to win the junior men’s air pistol gold in the 11th Asian Air Gun Championship in Kuwait. The 16-year-old had earlier won the Asian Games gold, World Championship junior gold and the Youth Olympics gold.

34th National Junior Athletics Championships 2018 held in Ranchi

The 34th National Junior Athletic Championship was held at Ranchi. With 35 medals including nine gold medals, Tamil Nadu recorded one of its best performances in recent years in the recently concluded 34th National Junior Athletic Championship at Ranchi.

  • In the event, junior athletes from Tamil Nadu won nine gold, 15 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Lok Sabha Secy Gen Snehlata Shrivastava gets one-year extension

The tenure of the Lok Sabha Secretary General, Snehlata Shrivastava, has been extended by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for one year. The 1982-batch retired IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, who was appointed last year in rank and status of a Cabinet Secretary, was scheduled to retire on the 30th of this month.

  • Her extension will be effective from the 1st of December to the 30th of November next year.

Ladakh restoration project wins UNESCO award

Restoration of an aristocratic house from a state of partial ruin in Ladakh has won an UNESCO Asia-Pacific award for conservation. While the Ladakh project won in the category of Award of Distinction under UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation, rejuvenation of an university clock tower and a fountain in Mumbai have have jointly received Honourable Mention.

  • The Ladakh Arts and Media Organization (LAMO) Center in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region was chosen for its systematic restoration project.


Jawahar Lal Sarin honoured with France's highest civilian honour

Jawahar Lal Sarin, president of the Alliance franaise de Delhi's governing body, was presented with the Chevalier de la Lgion d'Honneur , France's highest civilian honour. The award was presented to Sarin by Ambassador of France Alexandre Ziegler in recognition of his outstanding contribution to enhancing Indo-French cultural cooperation and promoting the French language.

    The Legion d'Honneur(Legion of Honour), instituted in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, is the highest civilian award given by the French Republic for outstanding service to France, regardless of the nationality of the recipient.


Centre awards Assam Police for citizen services

The Union government has awarded the Assam Police for "good practices" under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS), an e-governance project.

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs has also awarded Anil Kumar Jha, Special Director General (CID) of the force, for his outstanding contribution in implementing the project.

  • The award was handed over to the Assam Police during the two-day conference on "CCTNS--Good practices and Success Stories" organised by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) in New Delhi.


Swati Chaturvedi Wins RSF Press Freedom Award for Courage



Journalist Swati Chaturvedi was awarded the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Press Freedom Award for Courage. Chaturvedi, who works as a freelance journalist, won the award for her book I Am a Troll. 

  • The award was presented at the Getty Images Gallery in London’s Fitzrovia.

Manisha Koirala unveils her book 'Healed'



Actress Manisha Koirala unveiled her book "Healed", her personal story of a battle against ovarian cancer. Penned by the "1942: A Love Story" actress with Neelam Kumar, the book is subtitled "How cancer gave me a new life."

  • "'Healed" is the powerful, moving and deeply personal story of actor Manisha Koirala's battle against ovarian cancer.


Book On Mouth Cancer 'Arivu' Released

Dr Murali Mohan Chuntharu, a Dental Surgeon and also DK Home Guard Commandant has written a book named “Arivu”, which explains about Mouth Cancer and prevention of the disease. The release ceremony of the Book was held at Mangaluru Press Club where former District-in charge minister Ramanath Rai did the honors in releasing the book.

  • Dr Mohan is well-known person in his birth town, and by publishing this book he is bringing awareness of Mouth Cancer so that people could be careful in eating tobacco, smoking etc.

World Science Day for Peace and Development 2018

World Science Day for Peace and Development highlights the important role that science has in society and is celebrated each year on November 10. It also highlights the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues.

  • World Science Day was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2001 and celebrated for the first time in 2002. The theme for 2018 is “Science, a Human Right”.
