18th Indian Ocean Rim Association Council of Ministers Meeting held in Durban

Gen. VK Singh Minister of State for External Affairs, attended the 18th Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers Meeting in Durban, South Africa. This meeting is taking place during the on-going celebrations of the 150th year of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 100th birth anniversary of Nelson Mandela.

  • He mentioned that relations with countries in the Indian Ocean Region and nurturing a climate of peace and stability are important cornerstones of India’s foreign policy. India supports the intensification and invigoration of IORA activities, from renewable energy and the blue economy to maritime safety and security.


The UK India Business Council Launches New Report - 'Beyond the Top 200'

A new UK India Business Council report, 'Beyond the Top 200', sets out how India's new higher education policy could accelerate India's rise to superpower status by enabling young Indians to receive the world's best higher education in India through greater availability of the top courses provided globally.

  • The report launched in the margins of the FICCI Higher Education Summit, advocates for effective international collaboration in Indian Higher Education. As the report highlights, UK Higher Education institutions can, and want, to play an important role in supporting this goal at every level.

RBI slaps Rs 1 crore fine on Fino Payments bank

Mumbai-based newly-licenced bank Fino Payments Bank has been slapped a fine of Rs 1 crore by the central bank. Fino Payments Bank was asked to stop all account opening activities after the RBI found out that there were few accounts with the bank with deposits in excess of Rs 1 lakh, which goes against the licensing criteria of a payments bank. 

  • RBI directed Fino Payments Bank to put in place appropriate process to address the operating guidelines on deposit limits in customer accounts.

Ambati Rayudu retires from first-class cricket



Ambati Rayudu has retired from the long-form, including the Ranji Trophy, to focus on limited-overs cricket. With virtually no chance of playing Test cricket, Rayudu has decided to hang up his ‘first-class’ boots.

  • Rayudu’s first-class career spanned 17 years after he made his debut as a 16-year-old during the 2001-02 season. He scored 6,151 runs in 97 matches including 16 hundreds.


Simone Biles Sets Record With 13th Career Gold at World Championships



Olympic champion Simone Biles became the all-time leading world gymnastics championship gold medal winner when the American claimed her third gold at the Doha championships. Biles’s victory in the individual vault gave her 13 career gold medals, surpassing the record of Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo.

  • The 21-year-old became the first American to win a medal in every event during a world championship. She has won medals in each world championships she has competed in with 18 in total.


Shuttler Subhankar Dey wins SaarLorLux Open



India's Subhankar Dey upset fifth seed Rajeev Ouseph in straight games to win the SaarLorLux Open Badminton Championship Super 100 badminton tournament in Saarbrucken, Germany. The unseeded Subhankar got the better of England's Ouseph in the finals.

1971 War Hero M.P. Awati passes away



Vice-Admiral M.P. Awati (retd.), who commanded a naval unit of the Eastern Fleet in the 1971 India-Pakistan war and whose actions led to the destruction of an enemy submarine, passed away at his hometown near Satara in Maharashtra.

National Ayurveda Day



The National Ayurveda Day is celebrated every year on the occasion of Dhanwantari Jayanti (Dhanteras). This year Ayurveda Day is being observed on 5 November. Ayurveda is perceived as one of the most ancient and well documented system of medicine equally relevant in modern times. 

  • The Ministry of AYUSH is organising a 'National Seminar on Entrepreneurship and Business Development in Ayurveda' on November 4-5, aimed at raising awareness among the stakeholders about business opportunities available in the field, encouraging young entrepreneurs to use modern technologies and tap opportunities at global level.

  • The theme of the Third Ayurveda Day is 'Ayurveda for Public health'.

    National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Award: The award has been instituted by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India to be conferred on Ayurveda.
    Lord Dhanvantari is considered as divine propagator of Ayurveda. He is conferred with the virtues of granting health and wealth. Therefore, Dhanvantari Jayanti was preferred for celebration of Ayurveda Day to nationalize this system of medicine which can prove to be a cornerstone for its ultimate globalization.
