PM Modi dedicates first multi-modal terminal constructed on Ganga to Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated first multi-modal terminal constructed on river Ganga in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi. He reiterated that the foundation stones for various projects have been laid to make Ganga pollution-free.

  • The Prime Minister said with the completion of the multi-modal terminal, east Uttar Pradesh has now been connected to the Bay of Bengal.


24th Kolkata International Film Festival begins at Netaji Indoor Stadium

The 24th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) began at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata, West Bengal. It was jointly inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Soumitra Chatterjee and veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan.

  • 171 full-time movies and 150 small-time movies of 70 countries will be shown at 16 locations. The highlight of this year’s festival is that it celebrates 100 years of Bengali Cinema.


Met dept declares cyclone Gaja in Bay of Bengal

Deep Depression over Southeast and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal intensified into a Cyclonic storm ‘Gaja’. The Met Department predicts that it is very likely to intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours.

  • The Met department advised fishermen not to venture into Andaman Sea during the next 12 hours.

33rd ASEAN Summit Begins In Singapore

The 33rd edition of the ASEAN Summit began in Singapore. Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong is the Chairman of the Summit, which will continue till 15th November along with other related summits like East Asia Summit (EAS), Regional Comprehensive Economic Summit, (RCEP) and ASEAN plus summits.

  • In the biggest of its kind event more than 400 companies from over 100 countries are taking part as exhibitors. Apart from leaders of all 10 ASEAN countries, heads of 8 key partner nations of ASEAN will also be seen in the city during next week.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the East Asia Summit and Associated meetings of ASEAN on 14th and 15th November in Singapore.

Accenture acquires US-based Intrigo Systems

Global professional services company Accenture has announced that it has acquired Systems, Applications and Products (SAP)-based provider Intrigo Systems for an undisclosed sum.

  • Founded in 2009, US-based Intrigo Systems would help Accenture clients build digital supply chains that manage cross-functional business decisions, collaborate with suppliers in real-time and simplify compliance.

Hamilton wins Brazil Grand Prix



Britain's five-time world Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has won the Brazilian Grand Prix, the penultimate race of the 2018 F1 season. It was Mercedes' fifth consecutive constructors' title.

  • It was the 33-year-old Briton's 72nd F1 victory, as he came ahead of Holland's Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and  Finland's Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) for the constructors' title.

Union Minister Ananth Kumar passes away



Union Minister Ananth Kumar passed away in the wee hours of Monday in Bengaluru. The 59-year-old political leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had not been keeping well for the past few months.

  • Kumar holds charge of two key ministries - serving as Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers since May 2014 and as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs since July 2016 in the Narendra Modi government. Since 1996 he has represented Bengaluru South constituency in the Lok Sabha.

The just-released autobiography of one of the most celebrated authors of our times, Shashi Deshpande, provides a deep and personal account that elaborates on the shaping of a writers sensibility.

  • Titled "Listen To Me", it is published by Context, an imprint of Westland publications, and is billed as "an examination of the life and times in which Shashi Deshpande wrote her finest works.


Mansi Gulati’s Book ‘Yoga And Mindfulness’ launched



Famous yoga exponent and author, Mansi Gulati launched her book, ‘Yoga and Mindfulness’ yesterday. The book was launched by the Vice President of India. It explored the linkage between physical exercises and mindfulness.

  • He stressed that yoga would help in combating severe stress, lifestyle diseases and helps the overall well-being of an individual.
