7th International Tourism Mart Inaugurated in Agartala

Tripura will host three-day 7th International Tourism Mart from November 22 at Agartala with tour operator delegates from 18 countries participating in an effort to popularise tourist destinations in the northeastern states.

  • Union Minister of State for Tourism K J Alphons will inaugurate the 7th International Tourism Mart on October 22 at Prajna Bhavan in Tripura. The event will include cultural festivals and discussions on the theme for this year is 'Adventure Tourism'.


President Kovind, Punjab CM lays foundation stone for Kartarpur Corridor



President Ram Nath Kovind and Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will lay the foundation stone for the Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur on November 26. The decision to build the corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to the International Border was taken by the Union Cabinet.

  • Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, had announced that Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan would be breaking ground for the Kartarpur corridor on November 28.

    Kartarpur Corridor is a proposed border-corridor between India and Pakistan connecting the Sikh Holy shrine of Dera Baba Nanak Sahib to the holy shrine of Kartarpur Sahib states of Punjab in India and Pakistan.
    The historical Kartarpur Gurudwara also known as Darbar Sahib Kartarpur is situated on the banks of river Ravi and is considered to be the first gurdwara ever built.


Paytm partners with LIC for insurance premium payments

Paytm and arch rival Mobikwik, have simultaneously announced entry into online insurance payments and purchase of digital insurance on their platforms, respectively.

  • Paytm has partnered with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) to offer online insurance premium payments on its platform. Softbank-backed Paytm will provide premium payment solutions from over 30 insurance companies including LIC, ICICI Prudential Life, Reliance Life and Max Life Insurance among others.

  • Mobikwik, which is targeting a 4x growth in the current financial year, will also be providing purchase of insurance policies on its mobile application and website. According to the company, it will target 1.5 million insurance policies by end of FY19.


India Skills Report: Andhra tops in employability rate, talent quality

Andhra Pradesh has topped the list of states with the highest employability followed by Rajasthan and Haryana, as per the India Skills Report 2019 conducted jointly by Wheebox, PeopleStrong, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

  • The employability levels of B.Tech/B.E have increased across all the sectors, touching a new high of 63.11 per cent, which remained at 42.08 last year. However, the employability levels of MBA and polytechnic stand low between 47.18 per cent and 45.90 per cent.

  • Further, the report stated that Andhra Pradesh is one of the preferred hiring destinations in India, which offers equal space to both male and female workers.

  • The India Skills Report 2019 further held that around 70 per cent of the youth face problem due to lack of professional guidance in finding desirable jobs that worth their skills.

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank launches personal loan facility for salaried individuals

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ujjivan Financial Services Limited, launched personal loan facility for salaried professionals making it the first small finance bank in India to offer this.

  • The product will be launched across 14 tier I and tier II locations including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Surat, Mumbai, Mysuru, Ankaleshwar,Coimbatore, Kochi, Chennai and Vadodara.

  • The facility is a new product to the existing loans offered by the bank, Home Loan (for purchase of property and construction) and Business loans.

  • The personal loan will be available for salaried professionals who are earning a monthly salary above Rs 15, 000. Individuals can avail loans starting from Rs 50,000 up to Rs 15 lakhs. Ujjivan will provide a flexible time frame of 12 to 60 months for an individual to pay EMI.

UNICEF appoints Nahid Afrin as 'Youth Advocate' for NE



Popular singer Nahid Afrin of Assam has been appointed as the first 'Youth Advocate' of the north eastern region by the UNICEF to fight for child rights.
The UNICEF engages 'Youth Advocates' to harness their voice as agents of change in society.

  • Nahid made her playback debut in the 2016 Bollywood film 'Akira' starring Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. She received the best female playback singer award at the Assam state Film Award 2018.

Azim Premji Conferred Forbes India Leadership Awards 2018



Azim Premji, chairman of Wipro, has won Forbes India Leadership Awards 2018, Lifetime Achievement. Wipro is India’s fourth-biggest software services company by revenue and Ajim Premji is the second richest Indian. The Forbes India Leadership Awards, India's most prestigious honour for the top executives, was held in Mumbai.

  • Forbes India honoured entrepreneurs and company bosses across nine categories, with an emphasis on excellence, innovation, and transformational leadership.










OBITUARIES


Classical musician Ustad Imrat Khan passes away at 83



Indian classical music doyen, Ustad Imrat Khan, known for promoting the sitar and the surbahar internationally, has passed away in the United States at the age of 83. He belonged to the Etawa Gharana.

  • Khan had performed and recorded solo, playing both sitar and surbahar, and appeared at numerous music festivals across the globe.
