PM dedicates National Police Memorial to nation



PM Narendra Modi dedicated the National Police Memorial (NPM) to the nation. Oct 21 is observed as the 'Police Commemoration Day' every year in memory of the policemen killed at Hot Springs in Ladakh by the Chinese troops on this date in 1959.

 #MeToo: NCW launches dedicated email to report instances of sexual harassment at workplace

The National Commission for Women has come out with a dedicated e-mail address to report instances of sexual harassment at workplace after several such complaints were made to the body by women who have narrated their ordeal under the 'MeToo' movement on social media.

  • The Commission urges women who have come forward on social media and other platforms about their alleged harassers to send their formal written complaints to ncw.metoo@gmail.com.

Astana hosts seventh meeting of education ministers of SCO member states

The seventh meeting of education ministers of member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was held in Astana, capital city of Kazakhstan. Participants in the meeting included education ministers from India, Kazakhsta, China, Kyrgyzisthan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India was represented by Minister of State (MoS) Human Resource Development Satyapal Singh.

  • During the meeting, heads of delegations focused on ensuring implementation of agreements reached in June 2018 at Qingdao SCO Heads of State Council summit.


World's longest sea bridge between China-Hong Kong to open on October 24



The world’s longest sea bridge Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be thrown open for traffic on October 24. The 55-kilometer-long bridge, situated in the Lingdingyang waters of the Pearl River Estuary, will be the world’s longest sea bridge.

  • It will slash the travel time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from three hours to just 30 minutes, further integrating the cities in the Pearl River Delta.

Marc Marquez wins fifth MotoGP world title



Marc Marquez wrapped his fifth MotoGP world championship in just six years thanks to another stunning victory in the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi.

  • The 25-year-old Spaniard cruised to victory at the home of Honda after his main contender Andrea Dovizioso crashed his Ducati on the second-last lap.

  • Marquez now has a total of seven world titles to his name after triumphs in the Moto2 and Moto3 categories.


Praveen Kumar bids adieu to cricket



Pacer Praveen Kumar announced his retirement from all forms of cricket with immediate effect after 13 years of competitive cricket. He played only six Tests for India and picked up 27 wickets at an average of 25.81 including a five-for at Lord’s. The Meerut-born pacer played his domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh.

  • The veteran pacer will continue playing company cricket for ONGC but has decided to quit all forms of competitive cricket.

Ustad Chand Khan Lifetime Achievement Award for Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt



Grammy-winning Hindustani classical music instrumentalist Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt will be honoured with the annual Ustad Chand Khan Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • The two-day Indian classical music festival scheduled to be held on October 21-22, this year, will be dedicated to saint-musician-composer Pandit Kunwar Shyam, and celebrate the rich 'Guru-Shishya' tradition.

  • It will be Organised by the Sursagar Society of Dilli Gharana.

Telugu character artist Vizag Prasad passes away



Telugu senior actor Vizag Prasad, who is popular for his character artist and villainous roles passed away. The actor suffered from a chronic health condition from a long time. Vizag Prasad was 75.

  • Vizag Prasad is the stage name of Kollam Parvati Varaprasada Rao, who has essayed the character roles in over 175 films in the Telugu film industry.
