India, Japan to hold joint military drill in November

Indian and Japanese armies are going to hold their first-ever joint military exercise between November 1 and 14, which will include conducting tactical drills against likely urban threats, the Ministry of Defence said.

  • The military exercise named 'DHARMA GUARDIAN-2018' will be held between the Indian Army and Japan Ground Self Defence Force at Counter Insurgency Warfare School, Vairengte, in the state of Mizoram.


PM Modi reiterates govt's commitment to provide shelter to all homeless people by 2022

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated government's aim to ensure that all the homeless get shelter by 2022, when India celebrates 75 years of Independence.

  • He was speaking at a function marking the launch of several projects at Sai Mandir Complex at Shirdi in Maharashtra.

  • He handed over keys to 2.5 lakh Grameen beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, PMAY. He expressed happiness that he got the chance to fulfill their dreams on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashmi.

  • He released a silver coin to commemorate Centenary year of Shri Saibaba Samadhi. The Prime Minister also unveiled the plaque to mark the laying of foundation stone of various development works of Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust.

  • Prime Minister also launched a 10 mega watt solar project, Darshan Queue Complex, Sri Sai Baba Knowledge Campus and Sai Shrishti, where all significant works of Sai would be digitally available for tourists.

RBI eases liquidity norms for banks

The Reserve Bank of India increased lenders’ single borrower exposure limit for Non-Banking Finance Companies which do not finance infrastructure, from 10% to 15% of capital funds, until December 31, 2018.

  • The RBI also eased liquidity norms for banks, allowing them to calculate government securities held by them up to an amount equal to their incremental outstanding credit to Non-Banking Finance Companies, or NBFCs, and Housing Finance Companies.

Maeen Abdulmalik Sworn In As Yemen's New PM



Yemen’s newly appointed Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik was sworn in to lead the internationally-backed government in the war-torn Arab country.

  • Maeen was appointed as Prime Minister by Yemen’s President Abdu-Rabbu Mansour Hadi earlier this week, replacing his sacked predecessor Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr.

Wildlife Photographer Of The Year 2018 Bagged By Marsel van Oosten



Dutch photographer Marsel van Oosten won the grand title with his photo of critically endangered golden snub-nosed monkeys in China.

  • With this photo titled “The Golden Couple,” Dutch photographer Marsel van Oosten has won Wildlife Photographer of the Year, awarded by London’s Natural History Museum.


Arshdeep Singh Wins Top Wildlife Photo Award in Junior Category



Jalandhar’s Arshdeep Singh,10, has won the Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year (Asia) Award for his photograph ‘Pipe Owls'. The award ceremony was held at the Natural History Museum, London.

  • Shot outside Kapurthala city, the wining photograph with two owlets closely sitting inside a pipe, was taken while Arshdeep was travelling with his father.
