MHA: Retirement age for all Central Forces personnel fixed at 60 years
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has fixed the retirement age for all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), irrespective of rank, at 60 years.
- According to an order by the MHA, the retirement age will be applicable to personnel of Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and regular cadre of the Paramilitary component of the Assam Rifles (AR).
Union Minister of State for Chemical & Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya has announced that the first Central Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (CICET) will be set up in Gujarat.
- He said that the state will get the country’s first CICET either in Vatva or Surat.
The Odisha Wetland Authority has approved implementation of an integrated management plan of lakes “Chilika and Ansupa“. The Chilika lake is India’s largest brackish water lagoon and Ansupa is the Odisha’s largest freshwater lake. The 5-year management plan of lakes is intended at strengthening livelihood of thousands of fishermen relying on the two water-bodies at an estimated investment of Rs 180 crore.
SERB announces a scheme called Supra
The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) has announced a new scheme with the sole objective of funding exploration of new scientific and engineering breakthroughs with global impact. Called Supra, the initiative is one of PM Modi’s 100-day transformative ideas.
- The idea is to fund disruptive ideas that can lead to new areas of study, new scientific concepts, new products and technologies. The focus is not incremental or short-term advances in the understanding, but new science or truly disruptive technologies
A function will be held in Kerela to celebrate the Guinness Book of World Records entry of 100 Years of Chrysostum, a biographical documentary on Metropolitan Emeritus of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, Philipose Mar Chrysostum.
- The documentary on the 102-year-old Metropolitan was scripted and directed by filmmaker Blessy.
- The documentary has found an entry in the Guinness Book as the longest documentary film.
In Arunachal Pradesh, researchers of the Rajiv Gandhi University have discovered five new fish species in various districts of the state.
- The scientific names of the newly-discovered fish species are Mystus prabini, found in Sinkin and Dibang rivers in Lower Dibang Valley district and Exostoma kottelati, found in Ranga river in Lower Subansiri district.
- Other discovered species are Creteuchiloglanis tawangensis, found in the Tawangchu river in Tawang district, Garra ranganensis, found in Ranga river and Physoschistura harkishorei, found in Dibang and Lohit rivers in Lower Dibang Valley district.
According to an analysis of a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) data released by environmental NGO Greenpeace, India has more than 15 percent of all anthropogenic sulphur dioxide (SO2) hotspots in the world detected by the OMI (Ozone Monitoring Instrument) satellite.
- Thus, the study claims that India is the world's largest emitter of anthropogenic sulphur dioxide, which is produced from coal burning, and greatly contributes to air pollution.

Researchers at Karolinska Institute in Sweden have discovered a new sensory organ in the skin that is able to detect painful mechanical damage, such as pricks and impacts, an advance that may help develop novel painkillers.
- It is comprised of glia cells with multiple long protrusions and which collectively go to make up a mesh-like organ within the skin.
The global population of forest-dwelling vertebrates has plummeted in the period between 1970 and 2014, according to a study published by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Berlin.
- The study, titled Below The Canopy tracked the development of 268 vertebrate species and 455 populations in forests around the world. It found that the numbers of birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles have dropped by an average of 53 percent since 1970.

Australia's top order batsman Marnus Labuschagne became the first like-for-like substitute in the 142-year history of Test cricket after Steve Smith was ruled out of the remainder of the second Ashes Test in Lord's. Smith was diagnosed with concussion caused by a blow to his neck from England seamer Jofra Archer.
