Govt forms panel of secretaries on measures to ease financial stress in telecom
The government is constituting a high-level panel under Rajiv Gauba, the Cabinet Secretary to suggest measures for mitigating financial stress in the telecom sector.
  • The Committee of Secretaries (CoS) will look into the demand of telecom service providers for deferment of spectrum auction payment due from them for coming financial years 2020-21 and 2021-22.
'Aarambh', common foundation course for IAS probationers being held at Statue of Unity
'Aarambh', the common foundation course for civil service probationers is underway at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat, with around 450 civil service probationers participating in it.
  • This is the first ever of it's kind common foundation course for civil service probationers. The theme this year is 'How to achieve the goal of making India a 5 trillion dollar economy'.
AP launches online platform SMARTPORT
Andhra Pradesh, which is ranked number 1 in Ease of Doing Business in the country, is set to become a pioneer by bringing port-related services also under the EDB ambit through a new initiative called SMARTPORT.
  • SMARTPORT is an online platform launched as part of implementing the Ease of Doing Business Reforms related to trade and export promotion in all ports in the state.
Gandhinagar becomes first kerosene-free district of Gujarat
Gandhinagar district of Gujarat has become the first Kerosene-free district of the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has allotted one thousand LPG connections to the women beneficiaries of Gandhinagar district.

CM Patnaik launches 'Odisha Mo Parivar' programme
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched a social service initiative aimed at encouraging environment protection, blood donation and the welfare of Odias in distress.
  • He said that under the 'Odisha Mo Parivar' (Odisha, my family) programme, party leaders will dedicate themselves to protect the environment and undertake extensive planting of trees, and create awareness among the public.
Odisha: CM announces incentives for athletes
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced several incentives for the athletes of the state after interactions with Sports Hostel students.
  • The incentives have been announced based on the feedback of the students with an aim to fulfill the needs and create enough opportunity for excellence.
  • The monthly allowance for girl students has been increased to Rs 500 at Sports Hostels while the allowance for boy students has been enhanced to Rs 300.
  • Now, athletes who win a gold medal at the national level competitions will get a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 for one year. For the silver and bronze medalists, the amount will be Rs 500 and Rs 300 respectively.
New history created in Ayodhya as over six lakh diyas light up Sarayu's banks
A new history was created at Ayodhya in UP as a record 6 lakh earthen lamps lit up the Sarayu river bank on the eve of Diwali, days ahead of the Supreme Court verdict on the title suit over the disputed Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid land.
  • The banks of Sarayu in the temple town Ayodhya were lit up with the sparkling light of lakhs of earthen lamps on Saturday evening as people from different walks of life took part in the grand programme and lighted 'diyas' to cherish the moment.

Facebook Launches 'Preventive Health' Tool to Raise Awareness of Personal Health Concerns
Facebook has introduced a new health tool to push users towards preventive health measures. The Preventive Health tool connects users to health resources and assists in setting checkup reminders. In its official blog, Facebook explained that the activity within Preventive Health will not be posted publicly or shared with others.

Ex-soldier climbs world's 14 highest peaks in 189 days
Nirmal “Nims” Purja, a Nepalese former British army soldier has climbed all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre-high mountains in a record-breaking 189 days – a feat that has taken other climbers years to achieve.

HBR’s list of 10 best performing CEOs has 3 Indian-origin CEOs
The Best-Performing CEOs in the World, 2019′ list compiled by the Harvard Business Review (HBR) features 100 CEOs. The list has been topped by American technology company NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang. Among the top 10 chief executives on the list, 3 spots have been occupied by the Indian-origin CEOs.
  • Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen was ranked 6th, followed by MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga was ranked 7th and Microsoft chief Satya Nadella on the 9th spot. The list also features India-born CEO of DBS Bank Piyush Gupta on the 89th spot. Apple CEO Tim Cook was ranked 62nd in the list. The 2019 list has 4 female CEOs in the top 50 of the rankings.

BSE-Ebix get IRDAI approval to sell life and non-life insurance products
Asia's oldest exchange BSE and its joint venture partner Ebix, the global leader in insurance exchanges, have received in-principle approval for a certificate of registration to act as a direct insurance broker under the IRDAI (Insurers Brokers) Regulations 2018.
  • The venture, branded as BSE-Ebix Broking Insurance Broking Pvt Ltd, will enable distribution outlets, wealth management advisors, point of sales (POSs) to sell life and non-life insurance products.

Tiger Woods clinched historic 82nd title with Zozo Championship 2019
The Zozo Championship 2019 tournament title was clinched by America’s Tiger Woods, aged 43, which was his 82nd PGA Tour crown.
  • He sealed a historic three-stroke win to draw level with Sam Snead (America) for the most victories on Tour.
Shakib Al Hasan banned from all cricket for two years by ICC
Bangladesh’s Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended for two years by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not reporting a corrupt approach, ruling him out of the tour of India which starts November 3.
  • Shakib has been handed a full ban for a year and a 12-month suspended sentence.

Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde appointed as 47th CJI
Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has been appointed as the 47th Chief Justice of India. Justice Bobde will take oath as the CJI on November 18th, a day after incumbent Ranjan Gogoi demits office. He will have a tenure of 17 months and would demit office on April 23rd, 2021.

Pramod Kumar Tiwari appointed as DG, BIS
Pramod Kumar Tiwari has been appointed as Director General, Bureau of Indian Standards. He is a 1991 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre.

Anup Kumar Singh takes charge as new DG of National Security Guard
Senior IPS officer Anup Kumar Singh has taken charge as the new Director General (DG) of National Security Guard (NSG).

Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd was conferred with the National CSR Award 2018 for excellence in corporate social responsibility by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
  • Chairman and CEO of Edelweiss Group Rashesh Shah and CEO of EdelGive Foundation Vidya Shah received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind.


OBITUARIES

V Nanammal, India's oldest yoga teacher, passes away
The country has lost its oldest yoga teacher and exponent, V Nanammal. Her family said the yoga teacher who was confined to her bed for the past 30 days due to a fall she suffered, died peacefully.
  • She had bagged 150 awards, 6 national-level gold medals and Yoga Ratna award of the Government of Karnataka in 2014.
Veteran Arunachal journalist Taro Chatung passes away
Arunachal Pradesh's Veteran journalist Taro Chatung has passed away after a brief illness. He was 57.

National Ayurveda Day
The National Ayurveda Day is celebrated every year on the occasion of Dhanwantari Jayanti (Dhanteras). This year Ayurveda Day is being observed on 25th October 2019.
