Quant Test for IBPS PO Prelims Exam set – 27

Directions(1-5): Find the values of x and y, compare them and choose a correct option.
  1. I.18x + 15y = 492
    II.y^2 = 256
    x > y
    x >= y
    y > x
    y >= x
    No relation
    Option E
    x = 14
    y = 16,-16
    No relation

  2. I.4x^2 – 17x – 15 = 0
    II.3y^2 = 10y + 25
    x >= y
    x > y
    y > x
    No relation
    y >= x
    Option D
    I.4x^2 – 17x – 15 = 0
    =>4x^2 – 12x – 5x – 15 = 0
    =>(4x – 5)(x – 3) = 0
    =>x = 3,5/4
    II.3y^2 = 10y + 25
    =>3y^2 – 15y + 5y – 25 = 0
    =>(3y + 5)(y – 5) = 0
    =>y = 5,-5/3
    No relation

  3. I.5x^2 + 4y = 12
    II.4x^2 – 3y = 22
    No relation
    y > x
    x > y
    x >= y
    y >= x
    Option D
    On solving both the equations, we get
    x = +2,-2
    y = -2
    x >= y

  4. I.x^2 - 2x - 63 = 0
    II.y^2 + 13y + 42 = 0
    x > y
    y >= x
    No relation
    x >= y
    y > x
    Option C
    I.x^2 - 2x - 63 = 0
    =>x^2 – 9x + 7x – 63 =0
    =>(x+7)(x-9) = 0
    =>x = -7, 9
    II.y^2 + 13y + 42 = 0
    =>y^2 + 6y + 7y + 42 = 0
    =>(y+7)(y+6) =0
    =>y = -7,-6
    No relation.

  5. I.x^2 - 23x + 132 = 0
    II.y^2 - 19y + 88 = 0
    x > y
    y > x
    y >= x
    No relation
    x >= y
    Option E
    I.x^2 - 23x + 132 = 0
    =>x^2 – 11x – 12x + 132 = 0
    =>(x -11)(x -12) = 0
    =>x = 11,12
    II.y^2 - 19y + 88 = 0
    =>y^2 – 11y – 8y + 88 = 0
    =>(y – 11)(y – 8) = 0
    =>y = 11,8
    x >= y

  6. A Shopkeeper bought 30 kg of rice at the rate of Rs. 40 per kg. He sold 40% of the total quantity at the rate of Rs. 50 per kg. At what price per kg should he sell the remaining quantity to make 25% overall profit?
    50
    40
    80
    60
    70
    Option A
    Total CP of Rice = 30 * 40 = 1200
    40% of Total Quantity = 40% of 30 = 12
    SP = 12*50 = 600
    SP = 1200 * 125/100 = 1500
    SP of Remaining Quantity = 1500 – 600 = 900
    Remaining Quantity = 18kg
    Rice per Kg = 900/18 = Rs. 50

  7. Ravina’s age 4 years ago and Radha’s 4 years hence is same. Also the present ages of Ravina and Radha are in the ratio 5 : 3. Find the ratio of Ravina’s age 4 years hence to Radha’s age 4 years ago.
    2:3
    5:4
    3:1
    6:7
    2:5
    Option C
    Ravina= A, Radha = B
    Let A’s present age = 5x, and B’s = 3x
    A’s age 4 years ago to B’s age 4 years hence is same
    So (5x-4) = (3x+4)
    Solve x = 4
    So A’s present age = 20, and B’s = 12
    Required ratio = (20+4) : (12-4) = 3:1

  8. P and Q invested rupees 4000 and 5000 respectively in a business. P being an active partner will get rupee 50 every month extra for running the business. In a year if P receive a total of 800 rupee, then what will Q get from the business.
    220
    200
    250
    215
    225
    Option C
    Ratio in which the profit will divide – 4:5.
    A will get 50*12 = 600 rupees extra, so from business A got 200 rupees.
    i.e (4/9)*P = 200, P = 450. So B will get 450 – 200 = 250 rupees

  9. The average ages of 4 member, each having the age difference of 2yrs is 54 yrs.What is the sum of the youngest and oldest family member ?
    90
    95
    80
    108
    100
    Option D
    X+X+2+X+4+X+6 = 54*4 = 216
    4X+12 = 216
    X = 216-12/4 =51
    X+6 = 51+6 = 57
    Required = 51+57 = 108

  10. Among a group of 5 boys and 6 girls, 4 members is to be selected for an event. Find the probability that at least one boy is selected ?
    18/23
    17/22
    21/22
    15/21
    19/20
    Option C
    1 – No boy is selected
    1 – 6c4/11c4 = 21/22
