India launched online portal to facilitate pilgrims visit to Kartarpur Corridorf
India has launched an online portal 'prakashpurb550.mha.gov.in' for the registration of pilgrims visiting the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Punjab Province of Pakistan.
  • The pilgrims may have to necessarily register themselves online on this portal and exercise their choice to travel on any day. Pilgrims will be informed by SMS and email of the confirmation of registration three to four days in advance of the date of travel.
Deepika Padukone, PV Sindhu named as ambassadors for ‘Bharat Ki Laxmi’ initiative
Actor Deepika Padukone and shuttler PV Sindhu were named the ambassadors for Bharat Ki Laxmi, an initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that aims at bringing commendable work done by women across the nation to light ahead of the Diwali festival.

Odisha government plans to make state child marriage free by 2030

The Vijaya Bank Heritage Museum has been inaugurated at the headquarters of the erstwhile Vijaya Bank i.e. Bengaluru, Karnataka. The museum has a rare collection of photos through which the growth of the bank is showcased.

BEL pays Rs 231.69 crore final dividend to Govt for FY 2018-19
Defence Public Sector Undertaking Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has paid a dividend amounting to Rs 236.19 crore to the Government of India for the financial year 2018-19.

Broadband download speeds in India rose by 16.5% during Q2-Q3 2019: Report by Ookla
According to the report by Ookla, the company which owns Speedtest, which examined the recent trends in Indian telecom market during the last two quarters Q2-Q3 of 2019, broadband download speeds in India rose by 16.5% during Q2- Q3 2019 and topped 34.07 Mbps (Megabytes Per Second) in September 2019. India emerged as the leader in mean fixed broadband download speed amongst other neighboring countries.

Amazon’s male white bellbird is the world’s loudest bird
The male white bellbird is the world’s loudest bird which hits 125.4 decibels. This study was published in the journal Current Biology. This was recorded by Biologist Jeff Podos at Brazil in the mountains of the northern Amazon.

Vreedhi Financial Services receives an NBFC licence from RBI
Vreedhi Financial Services (VFS) has secured a non-banking finance company licence from the Reserve Bank of India.

World Bank inks agreement project to support smallholder farmers in Odisha
The Central Government, Odisha government and the World Bank signed a loan agreement worth $165 million to support smallholder farmers in the state.
  • The project "The Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture" will be implemented in Odisha's rural areas which are vulnerable to droughts and largely dependent on rainfed agriculture.

India jumps 14 notches, ranked 63rd in Ease of Doing Business
India climbed 14 rungs in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business 2020 survey to stand at 63, among 190 countries, making it the one of world’s top 10 most improved countries for the third consecutive time.

GeM and Federal Bank sign MoU for payment related services
The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Federal Bank to offer a number of services including transfer of funds through GeM Pool Accounts (GPA), advising of Performance Bank Guarantees (e-PBG) and Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) to the registered users on the portal.

Subedar Anandan Gunasekaran wins three gold medals at World Military Games
Indian Para Athlete of Madras Engineering Group & Centre, Subedar Anandan Gunasekaran, clinched three gold medals in the seventh World Military Games 2019 in China.
  • Gunasekaran won one gold medal each in three events -- 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters events.
Praveen Kumar wins gold in Wushu World Championship
Praveen Kumar has become the 1st Indian man to win a gold medal at the Wushu World Championships. He defeated Philippines’ Russel Diaz by 2-1 in the men’s sanda event in the 48kg category of the 15th World Wushu Championships held in Shanghai.

FIFA rankings: India drops two spots to 106th position
The Indian football team has dropped two spots to 106 in the latest FIFA rankings which were revealed recently. Belgium has managed to maintain its top sport and they are followed by France and Brazil.

Abhishek Nayar retires from all forms of cricket
Veteran Mumbai all-rounder Abhishek Nayar has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
  • He played 103 first-class games, most of them for Mumbai, and scored 5749 runs with 13 centuries and 32 fifties while taking 173 wickets in a career spanning a decade and a half.
Lauren Agenbag, first female umpire to officiate in a men's first-class game in South Africa.
Lauren Agenbag has made history by becoming the first female umpire to officiate in a men's first-class game in South Africa. The 23-year-old officiated in the match between Central Gauteng Lions and Boland in the Cricket South Africa's (CSA) Provincial three-day competition in Johannesburg.
  • Earlier this year, Agenbag became South Africa's first female umpire to officiate in a T20I, which was played between Sri Lanka and South Africa in Cape Town.
Sole, Abioye and Kumar suspended from bowling in international cricket
Tom Sole of Scotland, Abiodun Abioye of Nigeria and Selladore Kumar of Singapore have been suspended from bowling in international cricket after their actions were found illegal.
  • Sole was reported by match officials during Scotland's match against Kenya on 19 October, Abioye in Nigeria's match against Canada on 21 October and Kumar during Singapore's match against Scotland on 18 October.
China to host FIFA Club World Cup in 2021
The FIFA Council in a unanimous decision appointed China as host of the first edition of the new FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.
  • The Club World Cup will be played between June and July 2021 and the final list of venues will be decided by FIFA and the Chinese FA.

Mohun Bagan confers life membership to Abhijit Banerjee
The Mohun Bagan Athletic Club has conferred life membership to Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee. The club handed him the First Day Cover of 1911 and the maroon green jersey with his name written on it. He was also given a book on the history of the club.

A new book entitled “Ten Studies in Kashmir: History and Politics” released
An Indian historian, educationist and Padma Shri recipient, Kashi Nath Pandit’s new book entitled “Ten Studies in Kashmir: History and Politics”, published by Academic Foundation.

OBITUARIES

Veteran actor Radhamani passes away
Actor T.P. Radhamani, who was active in Malayalam and Tamil films, has passed away. She had been under treatment for cancer.

Belgian Paralympian Marieke vervoort ends life through euthanasia at 40
Marieke Vervoort, Belgian Paralympic athlete has ended her life at the age of 40 through euthanasia (the practice of intentionally ending a life to relieve pain and suffering). She was suffering from a muscle disease that caused her constant pain, paralysis in her legs.
