Manoj Sinha released a commemorative Postage stamp on Rajkumar Shukla in New Delhi



The Department of Posts will honour all important people who have not been given their due place in history by issuing commemorative postal stamps in their names, Communications Minister Manoj Sinha said.

  • In this series, a postal stamp has been issued on Shri Rajkumar Shukla," Sinha said after releasing commemorative stamp on Shukla. He is associated with Champaran Satyagraha and is said to have persuaded Mahatma Gandhi to visit Champaran to fight for farmers in the region.


Govt to infuse Rs 83,000 crore in public sector banks: Jaitley

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that government will infuse Rs 83,000 crore in public sector banks in the next few months of the current fiscal.  The government proposed a bill in the Parliament seeking approval for additional recap bonds of Rs 41,000 crore in the state-owned banks through the second batch of supplementary demands for grants.

  • Jaitley said, "The government has moved a proposal in Parliament for enhanced bank recapitalisation outlay from Rs 65,000 crore to Rs 1,06,000 crore in the current financial year to propel economic growth, cementing India's position as the fastest growing economy of the world. This would enable infusion of over Rs. 83,000 crore in the coming few months in Public Sector Banks (PSBs)."


Haryana CM inaugurates Patanjali's World Herbal Forest Project in Morni Hills



In an attempt to give a boost to Ayurvedic products, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will inaugurate World Herbal Forest Project, a collaboration of Patanjali and Haryana Government, in Morni Hill which is located 45 kilometres away from Chandigarh.

  • This development has come to light after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Haryana government and Patanjali Anusandhan Sansthan Divya Yog Mandir Trust situated in Haridwar in January last year.

The book ‘Changing India’ written by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was released



Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, ridiculed for his silence by his political opponents for years, had taken an unusual dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the release of his book, Changing India. Dr Manmohan Singh said he wasn’t “the PM who was afraid of talking to the Press”.

  • He had made the statement at the launch of his book Changing India, a compilation of his speeches and papers in six volumes in New Delhi.

  • Published by Oxford University Press, the book is being described as a definitive expression of the former prime minister's perspectives on a wide range of economic, social and political issues as they evolved under his long and eventful career.

Odisha 'Top Performer' in State Startup Ranking-2018

Odisha has been ranked as "Top Performer" in the State Startup Ranking-2018 organised by the Department of Industrial Promotion and Policy (DIPP) of the Central government. This is the first-ever ranking of states on 38 parameters relating to their respective startup ecosystem including feedback from a large number of beneficiaries.

  • Odisha has also been declared "Champion State" in terms of startup policy implementation, incubation hub, seeding innovation, regulatory change framework, public procurement initiative and communication, according to the statement. Odisha stood ahead of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Delhi.

  • While a total of 27 states and three Union Territories participated in the exercise, Gujarat topped the chart bagging the title of "Best Performer" state.

Former India skipper Anup Kumar retires from Kabaddi



India's former World Cup winning captain Anup Kumar announced his retirement from Kabaddi, ending a 15-year iconic career. He announced his retirement ahead of a Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 6 match, where he represents the Jaipur Pink Panthers.

  • Anup began his international career in 2006 at the South Asian Games in Sri Lanka. He was part of the national team that won gold medals in 2010 and 2014.


WV Raman new women cricket team head coach



Former Indian cricketer WV Raman has been chosen by the Board of Control for Cricket in India-appointed ad-hoc committee as the head of women cricket team

  • Raman, who is known for being the first Indian to score a century in South Africa during the 1992-93 tour, is the current batting consultant at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.










APPOINTMENTS


Harsh Vardhan Shringla Appointed India's Ambassador to The US



The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi appointed Harsh Vardhan Shringla as the new Ambassador of India to the United States of America. Shringla is currently serving as the High Commissioner in Bangladesh.

  • He would be succeeding Navtej Singh Sarna who assumed the office in November 2016.


Arti Chhabra Srivastava has been appointed as the first full time CVO in SEBI

SEBI, which has been in existence for over three decades, will now have its first full-time Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO). The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) recently cleared the name of Arti Chhabra Srivastava, a 1990-batch Indian Ordinance Factory Services officer, as SEBI CVO. The appointment was duly approved by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

  • CVOs are considered an extended hand of the CVC, which is tasked with detecting graft by officials holding public office.

International Human Solidarity Day

The United Nations’ International Human Solidarity Day is observed every year on December 20 to celebrate unity in diversity. The day reminds people on the importance of solidarity in working towards eradicating poverty.

  • Its purpose is to eradicate poverty and promote human and social development in developing countries, in particular among the poorest segments of their populations.
