Govt to set up Indian Institute of Heritage at Noida
The government has decided to set up the Indian Institute of Heritage at Noida. This will impact higher education and research in the field of rich Indian heritage and its conservation, leading to Masters and Ph.D. courses in History of Arts, Conservation, Museology, Archival Studies, Archaeology, Preventive Conservation, Epigraphy and Numismatics, Manuscriptology as well as conservation training facilities to in-service employees and students of the institute. Maldives Foreign Affairs Minister and President-Elect of 76th General Assembly of United Nations, Abdulla Shahid arrived in New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold talks with the External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar on key international, multilateral, regional and bilateral issues of mutual interest. 13,327 kilometers of National Highways constructed in 2020-21: Nitin Gadkari
Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that his Ministry has constructed 13 thousand 327 kilometers of National Highways in 2020-21 which works out to about 37 kilometres per day. Rs 2.73 lakh crore sanctioned under Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme: MSME Minister Narayan Rane
Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane has said that the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme has been launched for emergency credit line of up to 4.5 lakh crore rupees to MSMEs and the same is backed by 10 per cent Central Government guarantee. In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Mr. Rane said that 2.73 lakh crore rupees have been sanctioned under this scheme. Shravan Harela Festival celebrated in Uttarakhand
The people from the Kumaon region of the state of Uttarakhand and in some parts of Himachal Pradesh celebrate a Hindu festival named Harela every year.
  • The Shravan Harela, celebrated in the Hindu calendar month of Shravan, marks the onset of the rainy season (Monsoon). In literal terms, Harela means "Day of Green". People from agriculture background consider it to be an auspicious day, as it is the day when they begin the sowing cycle in their fields. The festival is celebrated with prayers for good harvest and prosperity.
Telangana CM to launch Telangana Dalit Bandhu from Huzurabad
The Telangana government’s ambitious Chief Minister’s Dalit Empowerment Scheme, now christened ‘Telangana Dalit Bandhu,’ will be launched by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in Huzurabad Assembly constituency of erstwhile Karimnagar district on a pilot basis. The purpose of Dalit Bandhu scheme is to improve their socio-economic status. Gujarat: Banas Dairy to install 50 MW solar plant to cut electricity cost of dairy by 25 per cent
After the success in milk production, Banas Dairy, the biggest milk cooperative in Asia has decided to set up a separate cooperative body to generate electricity on its own. The dairy located in Banaskantha district of North Gujarat will install a 50 MegaWatt (MW) solar plant that will help cut electricity cost of the dairy by 25 per cent. Bangalore International Airport partners with IBM for Digital and IT Transformation
IBM and Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) - operator of Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB/BLR Airport) — announced a ten-year agreement under which IBM and Kyndryl will provide best of breed IT solutions to create a new “Airport in a Box" platform that will support transforming the end-to-end travel experience for passengers at BLR Airport.
  • The new platform will also enable BIAL to improve employee productivity, better utilization of IT assets, reduce costs through streamlined inventory control and improved incident management.
DRDO successfully flight tests indigenously developed Man-Portable Anti-Tank Missile
In a major boost to Atmanirbhar Bharat and strengthening Army, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight tested indigenously developed low weight, fire and forget Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM).
  • The missile was launched from a man-portable launcher integrated with thermal site and the target was mimicking a tank.
DRDO successfully flight-tests New Generation Akash Missile
Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO successfully flight-tested the New Generation Akash Missile, a surface-to-air Missile from Integrated Test Range off the coast of Odisha. The missile system has been developed by Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories. IAF’s Sarang helicopter team all set to perform in Russian air show
The Sarang Helicopter Display Team of the Indian Air Force is all set to perform for the first time at the MAKS International Air Show held at Zhukovsky International Airport, Russia. The air show is scheduled from 20th July to 25 July this year.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Liverpool stripped of World Heritage status
Liverpool has been stripped of its World Heritage status after a UN committee found developments threatened the value of the city’s waterfront. UNESCO had previously warned that the developments, including the new Everton FC stadium, had resulted in a “serious deterioration” of the historic site.
  • The city was awarded the much-coveted title in 2004 in recognition of its historical and architectural impact, joining places including the Taj Mahal, Egypt’s Pyramids and Canterbury Cathedral.
China’s 600 kph maglev train makes public debut
China has unveiled a high-speed maglev train with a designed top speed of 600 kms per hour. As per Chinese official media reports, it is stated to be the world’s fastest ground vehicle.
  • The new maglev transportation system made its public debut in the coastal city of Qingdao, China’s east Shandong province.

ICICI Bank Unveils HPCL Super Saver Credit Card
ICICI Bank announced the launch of a co-branded credit card with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to enable users to get benefits and reward points for using multiple credit cards in one. Named, ‘ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver Credit Card’, the card offers best-in-class rewards and benefits to customers on their everyday spends on fuel as well as other categories including electricity and mobile, departmental stores like Big Bazaar and D-Mart, and e-commerce portals, among others. Powered by VISA, the card is unique among its peers which typically offer benefits on only one category of spends. SBI selects Paisalo as its National Corporate Business Correspondent
India’s largest lender State Bank of India has selected Paisalo Digital as its National Corporate Business Correspondent for boosting its financial inclusion drive with the help of kiosk-based banking services.
  • As a part of this alliance, Paisalo Digital shall be extending its services and its reach to its existing customers and new customers.
Kotak Mahindra Bank signs MoU with Indian Navy
Kotak Mahindra Bank has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Navy for salary accounts. The MoU enables the bank to offer its salary account proposition to all personnel of the Indian Navy—both serving and retired. The bank said it will also offer special salary account benefits to the Indian Navy. LIC launches Arogya Rakshak insurance plan
The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has introduced Arogya Rakshak, a non-linked, non-participating, regular premium, individual, health insurance plan.
  • The plan provides fixed benefit health insurance cover against certain specified health risks. It provides timely support in case of medical emergencies and helps the insured and his family to remain financially independent in difficult times

Australia’s Brisbane to host 2032 Summer Olympic Games
The International Olympic Committee announced that Australian city of Brisbane will host the 2032 Summer Olympic Games. Brisbane will also host the Paralympic Games. Indian wrestlers Aman Gulia and Sagar Jaglan become cadet world champions
Young wrestlers Aman Gulia and Sagar Jaglan emerged the new world champions in their respective categories as India dished out an impressive show on the second day of the Cadet World Championship.
  • Gulia emerged winner with a convincing 5-2 win over American Luke Joseph Lilledahl in 48kg final while Jaglan blanked James Mockler Rowley 4-0 in the 80kg summit clash.

Eswatini's King Mswati III appoints Cleopas Dlamini as new Prime Minister
Eswatini’s King Mswati III appointed Cleopas Dlamini as the southern African nation’s new Prime Minister, the move coming after weeks of protests in a push for democracy.
  • Dlamini, previously the chief executive of the Public Service Pension Fund, replaces Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini, who passed away in December 2020.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi appointed as Deputy Leader of House in Rajya Sabha
Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has been appointed as the Deputy Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. He has succeeded Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, who has now taken over as the leader of House in the Rajya Sabha. Aramane Giridhar gets additional charge of Chairman, NHAI
Aramane Giridhar, an IAS officer of 1988-Batch, has been assigned the additional charge of the post of Chairman, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Giridhar will hold the position till any officer is appointed on a regular basis or until further orders. Giridhar is presently serving as Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

Assam’s Cachar district wins SKOCH Award for nutri-garden project at village
The Cachar district of Barak Valley in South Assam has got the prestigious National Silver SKOCH award under health category on the project called ” Pushti Nirbhor”.
  • The prime objectives were to train the villagers towards becoming self reliant especially during pandemic situation,to explore the household Nutri gardens and earn the marketing value and to meet up nutritional need of the families.
  • Instituted in 2003, SKOCH Award salutes people, projects and institutions that go the extra mile to make India a better nation.


OBITUARIES

Veteran Malayalam Actor KTS Padannayil passes away
Noted Malayalam film actor KTS Padannayil, known for his comedy roles, passed away due to age-related ailments. Beginning his acting career as a theatre artist decades ago, Padannayil became active in Malayalam movies in the 1990s. Aniyan Bava Chettan Bava directed by Rajasenan was his debut movie. Renowned thespian Urmil Kumar Thapliyal passes away
Veteran theatre personality and litterateur Urmil Kumar Thapliyal passed away following a prolonged illness. The 78-year-old veteran had been suffering from intestinal cancer, his family sources said.
