Haryana to introduce ‘One Block, One Product’ scheme
To encourage and promote small industries in the rural areas, the Haryana government will soon introduce the 'One Block, One Product' scheme, Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said on Saturday.
  • Under the scheme, the state government plans to connect every block of the state with some industrial vision and the government is working expeditiously on this scheme, he added.
Maharashtra to be first state in country to issue educational documents using blockchain technology
Maharashtra will be the first state in the country to issue educational documents using blockchain technology. Forgery of documents is a serious concern for various educational and other institutions. Many steps are being taken to avoid forgery along with verification of documents. Maharashtra State Board of Skill Development has decided to issue block chain based certificates to students.
  • Around 10 lakh digital certificates will be issued to diploma holders of eight educational years. Singapore, Malta and Bahrain are the only countries using this technology. Maharashtra will be the 1st Indian state and world’s largest user of Blockchain for educational certificates.
Zurich airport-NIAL sign shareholder agreement for development of Noida airport
The Zurich Airport International signed a shareholder agreement with Uttar Pradesh government entity NIAL in Lucknow for the development of the Noida International Airport. The Noida International Airport is being built in Jewar, about 70 km from the main Delhi region.
  • Arun Vir Singh, CEO, Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), and Christoph Schnellmann, CEO, Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), signed the agreement.
  • YIAPL is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Zurich Airport International and has been incorporated to develop the Noida International Airport in Jewar, which is around 70 km from the main Delhi region.
India’s first monk fruit cultivation exercise begins in HP’s Kullu
The ‘monk fruit’ from China, which is known for its properties as non-caloric natural sweetener, has been introduced for field trials in Himachal Pradesh by the Palampur-based Council of Scientific Research and Industrial Technology-Institute of Himalayan Bio-resource Technology (CSIR-IHBT) in Kullu.
  • The field trials have begun three years after the CSIR-IHBT imported its seeds from China and grew it in the house.
  • The economic benefits of the new crop are estimated to be between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh per hectare.
IIT-Madras develops AI algorithm to spot cancer-causing mutations
Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have developed an Artificial Intelligence-based mathematical model to identify cancer-causing alterations in cells.
  • The algorithm uses a relatively unexplored technique of leveraging DNA composition to pinpoint genetic alterations responsible for cancer progression, which is difficult using present methodologies.
MoU signed between ITRA & Gujarat govt for strengthening Ayurveda education
An MoU was signed between the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda and the Gujarat government to pave way for strengthening the education system in all branches of Ayurveda.
  • Through this MoU, all institutions functioning in the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) campus in Jamnagar have been brought under the umbrella of ITRA, the only institution under the Ministry of AYUSH that has been accorded the status of Institute of National Importance (INI).
SAP, UNDP to foster digital skills, social entrepreneurship in rural Karnataka
SAP Labs India and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India have collaborated with the Karnataka government to facilitate increased access to career guidance, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities as well as promote digital skills to empower women and youth. One of the major objectives of the initiative, Code Unnati, is to impart digital literacy to women and youth from rural Karnataka, according to a statement. Google Cloud adds 2nd cloud region in country
Google Cloud launched its new cloud region in Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) to serve its customers in India and Asia-Pacific. This new Google Cloud region is the second such in India after Mumbai and the 10th in Asia-Pacific.
  • The need for a second cloud region in India stems from the enormous growth in demand for capacity building, disaster recovery solutions and low latency, Thomas Kurian, chief executive officer, Google Cloud, told reporters.

The United States, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan, have agreed in principle to establish a new quadrilateral diplomatic platform focused on enhancing regional connectivity.

Bank of Maharashtra signs MoU with NABARD
Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) to boost ongoing developmental initiatives linked to priority sector lending in Maharashtra.
  • The MoU envisages joint initiatives for the benefit of farmers, farmer producer organisations, joint liability groups, self help groups, rural artisans, weavers, agri-preneurs, agri start-ups, micro, small and medium enterprises in the State

Microsoft acquires cybersecurity firm RiskIQ for $500M
Microsoft has reached a deal to acquire RiskIQ, a San Francisco-based provider of cybersecurity services, including malware and spyware monitoring and mobile app security.

Olympics Selfie Points set up in Chhattisgarh to encourage Indian players participating in Tokyo Olympics
In Chhattisgarh, people are showing enthusiasm to encourage Indian players participating in the Tokyo Olympic Games. In Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, selfie points have been made at four public places to encourage the Indian players participating in the Tokyo Olympics.
  • People can take selfies at these places and share it on Facebook with the hashtag Cheer for India. Apart from this, an online quiz has also been organized by Sports Authority of India and Indian Olympic Association.

Lewis Hamilton celebrated a record eighth British Grand Prix victory after fighting back from a 10-second penalty for a first-lap collision that halted the race and sent title rival Max Verstappen to hospital. ICC inducts Mongolia, Tajikistan & Switzerland as new members at 78th AGM
The International Cricket Council inducted Mongolia, Tajikistan and Switzerland as the newest member countries at its 78th Annual General Meeting.
  • Mongolia and Tajikistan are the 22nd and 23rd members of the Asia region, while Switzerland is Europe's 35th Member, with the ICC now comprising 106 Members in total, including 94 Associates.
  • Meanwhile, Zambia, which was suspended at the ICC AGM in 2019, is no longer a member due to continued non-compliance with ICC Membership Criteria. Russia too has been suspended.

  • Referencing the post-2014 political moment and BJP-led majority government, Jalan introduces the concept of putting in place long-standing political and economic reforms nationwide.
  • A former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Member of Parliament from 2003 to 2009, Bimal Jalan has held several government positions throughout his career, such as finance secretary and chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister.

Tokyo Olympics: Bangladesh Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus To Receive Olympic Laurel
Bangladeshi Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus will receive the Olympic Laurel at the Tokyo Games, the second time the trophy has been awarded, the IOC said. Yunus, whose pioneering micro-lender has been hailed for cutting poverty across the globe, will be honoured for "his extensive work in sport for development".
  • The Olympic Laurel was created five years ago to recognise endeavours in culture, education, peace and development through sport, according to the IOC.
  • It was given for the first time at the 2016 Rio Games to Kenyan former Olympian Kip Keino, who opened a children's home, a school and an athletes' training centre in his home country.
  • Yunus founded the Grameen Bank in the 1980s and shared the Nobel Prize with the micro-lender.
Two Indian organisations win UNDP Equator Prize 2021
Aadhimalai Pazhangudiyinar Producer Company Limited and Snehakunja Trust are among the 10 awardees of the prestigious Equator Prize for their work in the field of conservation and biodiversity, said United Nations Development Fund (UNDP).
  • The UNDP gives a biennial award to recognize community efforts to reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

Nelson Mandela International Day
Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela's birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010.
