One in seven persons in India suffers from mental disorders: ICMR studyAbout one in seven persons in India suffered from mental disorders of varying severity in 2017, with depression and anxiety disorders being the most common mental disorders affecting 45.7 million and 44.9 million people each in the country, noted the findings of a first comprehensive study done by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on disease burden due to mental disorders in India.
- Research has shown that there is a significant increase in the incidence of mental health disorders in India over the years. The ICMR findings have clearly noted that approximate 197 million persons, roughly one in seven Indians, suffered from any kind of mental disorders of the year 2019.
India suffers most pollution-linked deaths in world
The report by the Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP) found pollution to be the largest environmental cause of premature death on the planet, causing 15% of all deaths – some 8.3 million people. India entering the per capita list at number 10 with 174 deaths
- India and China led in the number of pollution deaths, with about 2.3 million and 1.8 million respectively, followed by Nigeria, Indonesia and Pakistan. The US came seventh with almost 200,000 deaths.
- On the other end of the scale, five nations in the Arabian Peninsula ranked among the 10 countries in the world with the lowest death rates from pollution, with Qatar reporting the lowest.

- Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) School is an academic institution created under the APF Welfare Service Centre of Nepal Armed Police Force.
Indian-American Dr Monisha Ghosh has been appointed as the first woman Chief Technology Officer at the US government's powerful Federal Communications Commission.
- She will advise Indian-American Chairman of the FCC Ajit Pai and the agency on technology and engineering issues, and work closely with the Office of Engineering and Technology

RBI announces India's version of 'Operation Twist'The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) latest bond swapping programme, billed as India’s ‘Operation Twist’ is not without its twists and turns.
- The RBI said it will buy 100 billion rupees' ($1.4 billion) worth of the current benchmark 10-year bond while selling four bonds maturing in 2020 for an equivalent amount.
- It is the first time the RBI has conducted a special open market operation (OMO) of this kind, similar to the 'Operation Twist' carried out in the United States near the start of the decade.

Archaeologist R. Nagaswamy honoured in BangladeshNoted archaeologist R. Nagaswamy was honoured at the Silver Jubilee International Conference of Art in Dhaka by Bangladesh Culture Minister K.M. Khalid for his contribution to art, archaeology, history and culture.
- The Silver Jubilee volume of the Journal of Bengal Art was dedicated to Mr. Nagaswamy. The art carries articles by international scholars.
Virginian biochemist Camille Schrier has been named winner of Miss America 2020 after performing a live science experiment that defied stereotypes of the contest.
- Wearing a lab coat, the 24-year-old impressed judges with a chemistry demonstration to won a $50,000 (£38,000) scholarship and a one-year role as Miss America.
OBITUARIES
Congress MLA Banwari Lal Sharma passes awaySenior Congress party leader Pradesh Banwari Lal Sharma passed away. He was 61. He was the legislator from Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.
England 1966 World Cup winner Martin Peters passes away
England's 1966 World Cup final goal scorer, Martin Peters aged 76 passed away following a long battle against Alzheimer's disease.
- Peters was part of West Ham United trio who featured in the famous final at Wembley, with club teammate Geoff Hurst scoring a hat-trick in the 4-2 triumph against West Germany and Bobby Moore captaining the only England side to win football's top honour.
Eminent cinematographer Ramachandra Babu, who wielded camera for over 125 movies, passed away. He was 72.
- Babu had won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Cinematography four times for his works starting with his first colour film (Eastman Colour) 'Dweepu' in 1977, directed by Ramu Kariat.
- He went on to win three more -'Rathinirvedam' in 1978 and 'Chamaram' in 1980, both directed by Bharathan, and 'Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha' starring Mammootty in 1989 directed by Hariharan.
Renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Vidushi Savita Devi has passed away at the age of 80.
- She authored a biographical work on her mother, titled "Maa... Siddheshwari" and was the head of the Music Department at Delhi University's Daulat Ram College for many years.
Eminent translator and Sahitya Akademi award winner Dr G Nanjundan was found dead at his residence. He was 56.
- Dr Nanjundan earned recognition for translating more than a dozen books from Kannada to Tamil. They included Jnanpith award winner U R Ananthamurthy's 'Bhava' and 'Avasthe'.
- He received the Akademi Translation prize in 2012 for his work "Akkaa", a Tamil translation of short stories of various Kannada women writers.
