India gets USD 43 million from Green Climate Fund to boost climate resilience in 3 coastal statesIn a move that may positively impact over 10 million people living on the coastline, India kicked-off a USD 43 million project to boost climate resilience in three coastal states in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
- The project is funded by the Green Climate Fund, established within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to assist developing countries.
- The six-year project will build climate-resilient livelihoods for 1.7 million people in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha, offset 3.5 million tonnes of carbon, protect vulnerable ecosystems, and benefit another 10 million people with improved shoreline protection.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated Sisseri Bridge, built by the Border Road Organisation (BRO) on Pasighat-Bomjir Highway in Arunachal Pradesh.
- The 200-metre long bridge between Jonai-Pasighat-Ranaghat-Roing road will provide connectivity between Dibang Valley and Siang to meet the long-pending demand of the people of Arunachal Pradesh as it would cut down the travel time from Pasighat to Roing by about five hours.
The Chhattisgarh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel gave its nod for the merger and integration of various health schemes running in the State into one. The new scheme which will be implemented in a trust-based model is named after late freedom fighter Khoobchand Baghel.
- The ongoing central and state healthcare schemes - Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme, Chief Minister Bal Hriday Suraksha Yojana, Chief Minister Bal Shravan Yojana and National Child Health Program (Chirayu) - will be merged into this new scheme named as 'Dr Khubchand Baghel Health Assistance Scheme'.
Amid criticism by the opposition parties over the scarcity of sand, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy asserted that floods are coming in the way of sand mining as per demand and made it clear that his government’s aim is to weed out corruption in supply of the construction material.
- Stating that floods will recede in a week, Jagan announced the conduct of ‘Isuka Varotsavalu’ and during the week-long programme the entire administration will work exclusively on sand issue.
National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA) was launched in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
- NISHTHA is a National Mission aimed at improving learning outcomes at Elementary level through integrated Teacher Trainings.
- NISHTHA is a pioneer scheme being launched across the country, with a total of 86000 Elementary teachers of Government Schools being trained in J&K under the programme.
Union Minister of State for AYUSH and Defence Shripad Yesso Naik inaugurated two days international conference on Yoga being held in Mysuru, Karnataka.
- The theme of the conference was 'Yoga for Heart Care'. More than 700 national and international delegates participated in the conference spread over ten technical sessions involving fifty resource persons and experts.
Regional Conference on the theme “Replication of Good Governance Practices in Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh” was held in Jammu.
- The Conference aims to bring national and state-level organizations on a common platform and to share experiences in Digital Governance, Citizen-Centric Governance, and Capacity Building and Personnel Administration etc. Delegates from 19 states and 4 Union Territories are participating in the Conference.
The 15-day Aadi Mahotsav, National Tribal festival has began in New Delhi from 16th of this month. The theme of the festival is a celebration of the spirit of tribal culture, craft, cuisine and commerce.
- The festival will feature exhibition-cum-sale of tribal handicrafts, art, paintings, fabric, jewellery and much more through two hundred stalls.

11th BRICS summit held in Brasilia, BrazilPrime Minister Narendra Modi attended the annual session of BRICS, a grouping of five major world economies, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
- The 11th BRICS summit focused on strengthening ties among the five countries in key areas such as digital economy, science, and technology, as well as in building mechanisms for counter-terrorism cooperation.
- The theme of this year's summit is 'Economic Growth for an Innovative Future'.

7-yr-old Divyanshi wins Doodle for Google prize with 'Walking Trees'A seven-year-old student, Divyanshi Singhal from Gurugram has won 2019 Doodle for Google competition in India. She doodled her hope to have 'Walking Trees' in the future.
- The competition received submissions from over one lakh children between standard one to standard 10.
The Critically acclaimed movie “Bhonsle” has won prestigious awards at the Asian Film Festival Barcelona. The film has bagged two awards in the ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Director’ categories at the festival. The film is directed by Devashish Makhija.
Tobacco Board of India wins Golden Leaf Award
The Tobacco Board of India, Guntur, has been awarded the Golden Leaf Award at Tab Expo 2019 event in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The award was given in the most impressive public service initiative category for the year 2019.
