CM Naidu launches 2nd phase of Pasupu-Kumkuma scheme, welfare pensions

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu launched the second phase of Pasupu-Kumkuma (Turmeric-Kumkum) scheme and welfare pensions. Under the second phase of the scheme, women who are a part of Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas (DWCRA) will be given Rs 10,000 in three instalments.

  • As many as 94 lakh DWCRA women will be given Rs 10,000 as a grant under the Pasupu-Kumkuma scheme. As much as Rs 9400 crore have been granted for the scheme. Rs 2500 will be given on February 1, Rs 3500 on March 8 and the final instalment of Rs 4000 will be given on April 5.


Indus River Dolphin declared Punjab’s State aquatic animal

One of the world's rarest mammals, Indus River Dolphins has received an exceptional distinction. Found only in India and Pakistan in the Beas river, the generally playful Indus Dolphins have been declared Punjab’s State aquatic animal. The decision was taken in the Punjab State Wildlife Board presided over by the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. 

  • In Punjab, the Indus River Dolphins are found mainly in the Sutlej and Beas rivers. The survey conducted by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) was the first ever organised study to ascertain the population of Indus River Dolphins in India.

International Spice Conference 2019 held in Hyderabad

The fourth edition of international spice conference (ISC 2019) held in Hyderabad. The conference is hosted by the All India Spices Exporters Forum (AISEF) which represents around 80% of spices export from India.

  • ISC will bring under one roof more than 800 delegates from over 50 nationalities, 45 speakers and 72 exhibitors The theme for the conference is challenges of change-redefining the value chain.

Sikkim signs MoU with Microsoft for digital learning

Microsoft India entered into a pact with the Sikkim state government to improve the education system in the state by boosting digital literacy and the knowledge of new-age technology among students and teachers in government schools. The MoU was signed between the Human Resource Development Department and the technology major.

  • The collaboration was carried out between Sikkim and Microsoft India as part of the state’s commitment to use the power of technology to revamp its core sectors including e-governance.

'Nasr’-short range surface-to-surface ballistic missile test fired by Pakistan

Pakistan Army successfully test-fired the short range surface-to-surface ballistic missile 'Nasr' which it claimed can defeat any ballistic missile defence system now available in the country's neighbourhood or any other system being developed.

  • Nasr, with a strike range of about 70-km, is a high precision, shoot and scoot weapon system with the ability of in-flight maneuverability.

Two RRBs to be merged to form Tamil Nadu Grama Bank

Public sector Indian Bank said two regional rural banks (RRBs), Pallavan Grama Bank and Pandyan Grama Bank will be merged to form Tamil Nadu Grama Bank as per the Finance Ministry. The integration will be effective from April 1. 

  • The new Tamil Nadu Grama Bank will be under the sponsorship of Indian Bank with head office in Salem,Tamil Nadu. Originally the Pallavan Grama Bank was sponsored by Indian Bank and Pandyan Grama Bank by Indian Overseas Bank.

Sana Mir becomes first Asian woman cricketer to play 100 T20Is



Former Pakistan women's cricket team skipper Sana Mir became the first Asian woman cricketer to play 100 T20 international matches. Overall, Sana is the sixth woman cricketer to complete a century of T20 Internationals. Daendra Dottin of West Indies tops the list with a total of 109 T20Is to her name.

  • In the Asian list, Sana is followed by fellow Pakistan cricketer Bismah Maroo (94 T20Is) and India's Harmanpreet Kaur on third position (93 T20Is).


Nepal’s Sundeep Jora youngest man to hit T20 International fifty

Nepal's Sundeep Jora became the youngest cricketer to score a half-century in T20 Internationals. Aged 17 years and 103 days, Jora achieved the feat during a T20I match against UAE in Dubai.

  • Earlier, Nepal's Rohit Paudel etched his name in the history books, becoming the youngest player in international cricket to hit a half-century, surpassing legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Shahid Afridi.
