Helicopter-launched anti-tank missile ‘Helina’ test-fired in Balasore, Odisha



India test-fired its helicopter-launched version of one of the most-advanced anti-tank weapons from the Odisha coastHelina, the helicopter-launched version of the Nag anti-tank guided missile with a hit range of 7-8 km, was launched from an Army chopper.

  • The weapon system was tested for its full range near the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur in Balasore district. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), it is one of the most-advanced anti-tank weapons in the world.

Smile Train India Launches a Toll-free Cleft Helpline on National Cleft Day

To mark the second annual National Cleft Day, Smile Train India has officially launched the country's first toll-free national cleft helpline - Smile Train India Cleft Helpline. The helpline 1800 103 8301, is accessible to people throughout India who are looking for information about cleft treatment.

  • February 8 is observed as National Cleft Day by the Indian Society of Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies and cleft charities in India. 


Yogi Adityanath flags off 33 'Sarthi Sandesh Vahini' vehicles in Gorakhpur



Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off 33 'Sarthi Sandesh Vahini' vehicles in GorakhpurThe 'Sarthi Sandesh Vahini' is a mission started by the state family welfare department with an aim to spread awareness regarding family planning in urban and rural areas.

  • The Abhiyan is being launched to spread awareness about the various disease and provide medical assistance to the needy. The first phase of the campaign has begun on 10 February and it will continue till February 28. The second phase will start from 15 May to 15 June and the third phase will begin from June 1 to June 30.

Multinational Maritime Exercise ‘Aman 19’ commenced in Karachi

The five-day multinational maritime exercise 'AMAN-19', in which 46 nations are taking part, commenced near the coastal city of Karachi. The principal purpose of the exercise, conducted after every two years since it was initiated in 2007, is to provide a forum for understanding of each other's maritime concepts and operational cultures and come up with ways and means to combat common threats at sea.

RBI Doubles the limit of bulk deposits from Rs. 1 crore to Rs 2 Crore

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) decided to raise the criteria for 'bulk deposits' for banks to Rs 2 crore from the current Rs 1 crore, to provide more operational freedom to lenders to raise funds. Banks have been given discretion to offer differential rate of interest on the bulk deposits as per their requirements and asset-liability management (ALM) projections.

  • It also proposed that banks would maintain their bulk deposit interest rate cards in the core banking system for supervisory review. The instructions regarding bulk deposits were last reviewed in January 2013 and defined as single rupee deposits of Rs 1 crore and above.


World Government Summit begins in Dubai

The seventh session of the World Government Summit kicked off in Dubai with the participation of over 4,000 delegates from 140 countries. The summit will unite efforts and ideas to reinforce people's wellbeing. Over 600 speakers, including heads of states, top thinkers and leaders as well as 30 international organisations, will address the summit.

Rohit Sharma becomes 1st Indian to smash 100 sixes in T20 Cricket

Indian opener and stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma became the first man from his country to smash a century of sixes in T20I cricket in the second T20 between India and New Zealand.  At the end of the innings, Rohit was on 102 sixes, just one behind Martin Guptill and Chris Gayle, who top the charts.

  • Behind him are the destructive NZ duo of Brendon McCullum and Colin Munro. Rohit Sharma surpassed Guptill to become the highest scorer in T20 Internationals.

Radheyshyam Julaniya to replace Rahul Bhatnagar as Union Sports Secretary

Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer Radheyshyam Julaniya will replace Rahul Bhatnagar as the Union Sports Secretary. Julaniya is a 1985 batch officer and was working with his home cadre till now. 

  • Bhatnagar, an officer of the 1983 batch from Uttar Pradesh, has been released by the Sports Ministry and is set to join the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

Deepa Mehta to be feted with Lifetime Achievement award from Canadian Academy

Acclaimed Indo-Canadian filmmaker Deepa Mehta will be given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Mehta, best known for her Elements Trilogy - "Fire", "Earth" and "Water".

  • The Canadian Screen Awards are awards given annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television recognising excellence in Canadian film, English-language television, and digital media productions.
