Conference on Unani Medicine for Public Health held in New Delhi



The International Conference on Unani Medicine was held in New Delhi. It was inaugurated by Minister of State (IC) for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, MoS PMO, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh.

  • It was organised by Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), under Ministry of AYUSH is organizing as part of celebration of Unani Day (February 11). The theme of the conference was Integration of Unani System of Medicine in main stream healthcare.

    About Unani Day: The birthday of great Unani researcher Hakim Ajmal Khan i.e. 11th February is celebrated as Unani Day. Hakim Ajmal Khan was eminent Indian Unani physician who was versatile genius, freedom fighter, educationist and founder of scientific research in Unani Medicine. This year it was 150th Birth Anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan.


1st LAWASIA Human Rights conference 2019 held in New Delhi

LAWASIA, in association with the Bar Association of India, hosted its 1st LAWASIA Human Rights Conference in New Delhi with a motive to explore a broad range of human rights issues of relevance in the Asia Pacific region.

  • The theme of the conference was “State Power, Business and Human Rights: Contemporary Challenges”.


CREDAI's Event 'YouthCon-19' held In New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the CREDAI YouthCon -19 in New Delhi Talkatora Stadium. The annual conference will bring together the next generation of real estate builders and developers to enlighten their young minds and share their thinking and approach.

  • The event is organized by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India, CREDAI. The theme for this YouthCon is ‘Next Generation’. 


 Deadline for selecting TV channels extended till March 31

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) extended the deadline for selection of TV channels by both cable and Direct-to-Home (DTH) subscribers till March 31. The decision comes after the regulator held a meeting with DTH operators and multi-system operators (MSO). 

  • The TRAI also told the operators to design a "best fit plan" for the subscribers who have not migrated to the new framework. Subscribers will be free to change their "best fit plan" until July 31, 2019. The 'best fit plan' shall be designed based on consumers' usage pattern, language spoken and popularity of channels. It should preferably be a blended combination of various genres.

2 day International Dam Safety Conference 2019 starts in Bhubaneswar

The 5th International Dam Safety Conference–2019 will be held in Bhubaneswar. The two-day event, a joint initiative of the Government of India, Government of Odisha and the World Bank, will conclude on February 14. 

  • Dam Safety Conferences are being organized as an annual event in different DRIP States in collaboration with the Implementing Agencies and leading academic institutes to provide a common platform for all stakeholders including non-DRIP States.


Uttarakhand to get a national law university

The Centre has decided to set up a national law university in Uttarakhand. This is a big step toward making Uttarakhand a quality education hub. India has 21 national law universities, admissions to which are held through a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

Modern animal husbandry park to be set up in TN

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami said a multi-disciplinary animal husbandry park will be set up in Salem district. He said the park will be set up on a 900 acre plot at an outlay of Rs 396 crore.

  • The proposed park will have an advanced veterinary hospital and modern cattle, poultry, domestic dog, bull breeds, sheep, goat farms to explain to the farmers about their scientific rearing.


UNICEF in Maharashtra to join hands with Goa WCD to address issues in child protection

The UNICEF in Maharashtra has joined hands with Goa Women and Child Development(WCD) to focus on and support in the area of child protection in the State. Ms. Rajeshwari Chandrasekar Chief Field Officer,UNICEF Maharashtra and Ms. Alpa Vora, Consultant , Child Protection, UNICEF were participating in a discussion on “key challenges around child protection in Goa”, at an on-going training programme on Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS). 

Kerala Emerges 'Achiever' in Investment Potential Ranking

Kerala has emerged an achiever in the State Investment Potential Index 2018, based on the six pillars of land, labour, infrastructure, economic climate, political stability and governance and business perception. The Kerala-specific findings of the survey, conducted by the National Council of Applied Economic Research, titled 'NCAER-State Investment Potential Index 2018' (N-SIPI) were released at ASCEND KERALA 2019 in Kochi.

  • NCAER Director-General Dr Shekhar Shah speaking at the first plenary of ASCEND KERALA 2019 said that Kerala ranks fourth on how it is perceived as an investment destination, after Gujarat, Haryana and West Bengal.

India proposes to construct Lower Arun Hydro project

The Indian government has proposed the construction of Lower Arun Hydropower Project in Nepal with a capacity of 400 Megawatts (MW). The project investment is estimated to be over Rs 100 billion. Nepal Energy Ministry has estimated that the project would be of around 1000 MW capacity if it is designed in a way to export power to India.

  • In a meeting with Minister for Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation Barshaman Pun at New Delhi, Indian Minister of State for Power Raj Kumar Singh put forth a proposal that the new project can be developed adopting the same model of 900-MW Arun III project.

The book titled “Let’s Talk On Air: Conversations with Radio Presenters” has been authored by Rakesh Anand Bakshi,was launched on World Radio Day (WRD-2019) on February 13 in Mumbai. This book is depicted as the comprehensive guide on radio-presenting in India.

  • This book explains the lives of 14 popular radio presenters in India from the legendary Ameen Sayani to present day RJs who have been entertaining us via the airwaves.

MP announces Rs 1 crore for sportsmen participating in international events

Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Jitu Patwari has announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for sportsmen participating in international competitions.

  • He made the announcement at a felicitation function for state atheletes in Ujjain. The minister also announced a reward of Rs 5 crore for sportmen winning gold in international competitions, Rs 3 crore for every silver medal and Rs 1 crore for every bronze winner from the state.

  • He said a grant of Rs 5 lakh would be given to national level athletes from Madhya Pradesh, and a government job for sportsmen who participate in at least three national competitions.










APPOINTMENTS


Ashwani Lohani reappointed Air India CMD

Ashwani Lohani, a retired bureaucrat, has been appointed the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of national carrier Air India in New Delhi. Lohani held the position for around two years from 2015. In August 2017, he was named the Chairman to the Railway Board. He retired on December 31, 2018.

  • The government appointed Air India CMD Pradeep Singh Kharola as the new Civil Aviation Secretary.

Sanjay Subrahmanyam wins Israel’s Million Dollar Dan David Prize

Indian Historian Sanjay Subrahmanyam won Israel’s prestigious Dan David Prize in the category ‘Past time dimension’ for his work in macro-history. He shared the USD 1 million award in the ‘Past time dimension’ category with Prof Kenneth Pomeranz of the University of Chicago.

OBITUARIES


Telugu Director Vijaya Bapineedu passes away



Prominent Telugu film director-producer Vijaya Bapineedu, who gave several hits to mega star Chiranjeevi, passed away in Hyderabad. He was 83. Bapineedu hails from West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. He made films with Chiranjeevi, Sobhan Babu, Krishna and other leading heroes of yesteryear.

  • His movie 'Gang Leader' starring Chiranjeevi was a blockbuster. It was successfully remade in Hindi as 'Aaj ka Goondaraj' with Chiranjeevi in the lead.

World Radio Day

World Radio Day is celebrated on February 13 every year. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will celebrate the eighth edition of the World Radio Day. This day marks a time where people around the world celebrate radio and how it shapes everyone's lives. 

  • World Radio Day 2019 will celebrate the theme of "Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace".
