3rd Indo-German Environment Forum held in New Delhi

A Bilateral meeting between India and Germany 3rd Indo-German Environment Forum held in New Delhi. The outcomes of discussion made in Indo-German Working Group held in Delhi on 6th February 2019 taken up to higher alliance discussed in the forum. 

  • Additional Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Anil Kumar Jain called for strengthening the renewable alliances and climate between India and Germany as well as cooperation in field of environment.


Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal Commissions 1st Aqua Mega Park in AP

Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal commissioned Godavari Mega Aqua Food Park at Tundurru Village in Bhimavaram Mandal, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh through video conferencing.

  • The park is promoted by Godavari Mega Aqua Food Park Pvt. Ltd. It will be the first Mega Aqua Food Park operationalised exclusively for fish and marine products processing in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Godavari Mega Aqua Food Park Pvt. Ltd has been set up in 57.81 acre of land at a cost of Rs. 122.60 crores.


CCEA approves CLCS-TUS with total outlay of Rs. 2900 crore

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs,CCEA has approved the Credit Linked Capital Subsidy and Technology Up-gradation Scheme (CLCS-TUS) with a total outlay of 2900 crore rupees. The scheme aims at improving the competitiveness of MSMEs by integrating various ongoing schematic interventions aimed at up-grading technology through Credit Linked Capital Subsidy (CLCS).

  • The scheme will facilitate technology up-gradation , improvement in Quality of products by MSMEs, enhancement in productivity, reduction in waste.


e-AUSHADHI portal launched for licensing of AYUSH medicine

Minister of State for AYUSH, Shripad Yesso Naik launched the e-AUSHADHI portal, for online licensing of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy drugs and related matters in New Delhi. The e-AUSHADHI portal aims increased transparency, improved information management facility, improved data usability and increased accountability.

  • This portal will not only aid the licensing authority , manufactures and consumers, it will also provide real time information of the licensed manufactures and their products, cancelled and spurious drugs, contact details of the concerned authority for specific grievances.


Bihar govt announces universal old age pension scheme-Mukhyamantri Vridhajan Pension Yojna

Bihar government has announced a universal old age pension scheme - Mukhyamantri Vridhajan Pension Yojna- MVPY for all people above 60 years of age. The scheme will come into force from the 1st of April this year. Except those senior citizens who have retired from government service, all will be eligible for 400 rupees monthly pension irrespective of caste, religion or community.

  • Currently old age pension scheme is applicable to only the BPL category. The Chief Minister also announced a pension of 6,000 rupees for journalists above 60 years of age. Those who have been in regular service in the field of media and not getting any other pension will be eligible for Bihar Patrakar Samman Yojana (BPSY).


India's first Centre for Textiles Trends Forecasting soon in Delhi

In keeping with its status as a major textiles market as well as exporter, India will soon have its first Centre for Textiles Trends Forecasting to be set up in Delhi. The complex of facilities in the centre designed to boost India's exports would include an Incubation and Innovation Centre designed to aid "design interventions" and incubate textile start-ups, as well as a first of its kind Crafts and Textiles Depository.

Macedonia officially changes name to North Macedonia

The country formerly known as the Republic of Macedonia officially changed its name to the Republic of North Macedonia, on paper ending a decades-long dispute that should pave the way for NATO membership. 

  • After declaring independence from Yugoslavia in 1991, the country chose the name Macedonia. But that title severely strained relations with neighbor Greece, which also has a region called Macedonia.

Cobra Gold, one of world’s largest multinational military exercises, kicks off in Thailand

One of the world’s largest and longest-running international military exercises officially began in Thailand. The 38th annual Cobra Gold exercise, scheduled to run through Feb. 22, is co-sponsored by the Royal Thai and U.S armed forces.

  • They are joined by another 27 nations, including Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea and Singapore. China and India participate in civic-action parts of the exercise. This year’s exercise will focus on military field training, civic assistance to communities and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

Global unemployment rate falls to 5%, hits pre-crisis levels

Global unemployment levels fell one percentile to a steady 5 per cent in 2018, the lowest figures since the economic crisis that wreaked havoc on labour markets, the International Labour Organization said in a report published recently. 

  • The "World Employment and Social Outlook Trends 2019" report said unemployment rates were anticipated to fall further to 4.9 per cent this year, which is expected to hold steady into 2020 despite the fact that the number of jobless in real terms is estimated to rise from 172 million to 174 million in that time as the labour market expands.

Sushil Chandra appointed new EC

CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra was appointed the new Election Commissioner ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, making the poll panel a three-member entity again. The other two members of the Commission are Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora and Election Commissioner (EC) Ashok Lavasa.

  • Chandra, 61, an IRS-IT officer of the 1980 batch, will fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of O.P. Rawat, who demitted office as Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) late last year.

Siddhartha Lal wins the EY Entrepreneur Of the Year for 2018

Siddhartha Lal, managing director and chief executive officer, Eicher Motors, has been awarded the EY Entrepreneur of the Year for 2018. Lal will now represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award (WEOY) in Monte Carlo. 

  • This global business award programme is celebrated across 60 countries. Now in its 20th year in India, it recognizes entrepreneurs for building a better India and accelerating growth and innovation.


Bradley Cooper Wins Best Director From PETA for ‘A Star Is Born’

Bradley Cooper has been awarded the ‘Oscat’ by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The animal rights organisation awarded Cooper “for his enlightened decision to cast his own canine companion in ‘A Star Is Born’ rather than using one supplied by a notorious animal exhibitor”.








OBITUARIES


Chemistry Nobel Prize Winner Manfred Eigen passes away

German scientist Manfred Eigen, who jointly won the 1967 Nobel Prize for Chemistry, passed away aged 91. He had won the prize for working on a method to calculate speeds of extremely fast chemical reactions, effected by disturbing the equilibrium by means of short energy pulses. In 1971, he founded Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Germany.

Ex-Goa Dy CM Francis D'Souza passes away at 64

Former deputy chief minister of Goa and BJP MLA Francis D'Souza passed away. He was 64. He was elected to Goa Legislative Assembly in the year 1999 as Goa Rajiv Congress party candidate and was later shifted to BJP to get elected to the state legislative assembly in 2002, 2007, 2012 and 2017 from Mapusa constituency.
