Mumbai first South Asian city to work on climate action planIqbal Singh Chahal, Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that Mumbai is the first city in South Asia to launch the Mumbai Climate Action Plan, which is rolling in now.
- He also launched the Mumbai Climate Action Plan (MCAP) website to seek suggestions and inputs from experts and citizens from the megacity.
- Aimed at better future planning and growth, keeping in tune with climate adaptation, mitigation and resilience, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is developing the Climate Action Plan to be completed after public consultation in two months' time.
Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, is setting up an Atmanirbhar Bharat corner in 75 Indian Missions/ Embassies across the world in the next 3 months.
- The first such Atma Nirbhar Bharat corner was successfully inaugurated at Indian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand on August 15, 2021.
- Apart from this, TRIFED will also be establishing Atmanirbhar corners in 75 embassies of foreign countries set up in India.
The Ministry of Coal has constituted a Task Force and Expert Committee to Prepare Road Map for Coal based Hydrogen Production.
- The Task Force will be headed by Additional Secretary in the Ministry. Its broad terms and reference include identification of role to be played by each stakeholder Ministry, monitoring of activities towards achieving coal based Hydrogen production and setting up sub committees to achieve the objective.
- On the other hand, the Expert Committee will be headed by Director General of the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry, R.K. Malhotra. Its terms and reference include identifying experts in India and co-opting as members, desk based review of progress in hydrogen technology and also review ongoing research projects in Hydrogen technology.
Union Cabinet approved the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Textiles. Under it, the incentives worth 10,683 crore rupees will be provided over five years.
- Textiles Minister, Piyush Goyal said, this will positively impact states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha.
- The scheme will promote production of high value Man Made Fabric, Garments and Technical Textiles in the country.
Union Cabinet has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Chamber of Auditors of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
- It will help in establishing the Mutual Cooperation in the areas of Member Management, Professional Ethics, Technical Research, Professional Accountancy Training, Audit Quality Monitoring, Advancement of Accounting Knowledge, Professional and Intellectual Development.
All India Institute of Ayurveda under Ministry of Ayush has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU in coordination with Western Sydney University Australia, in virtual mode to appoint an Academic Chair in Ayurveda.
- The new Academic Chair will undertake academic and collaborative research activities in Ayurveda.
- It includes herbal medicine and yoga as well as design academic standards and short-term and medium-term courses and educational guidelines.

India Post Payments Bank, LIC HFL announce strategic partnership for providing home loan productsIndia Post Payments Bank and LIC Housing Finance Limited announced a strategic partnership for providing home loan products to over 4.50 crore customers of India Post Payments Bank.
- Ministry of Communications in a statement said, through its robust and extensive network of 650 branches and more than 1.36 lakh banking access points, India Post Payments Bank, IPPB will make home loan products accessible to its customers pan-India.
The Central banks of Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Republic of South Africa to begin the trial of using Central Bank Digital Currencies(CBDC) in cross-border payments.
- The trial is being led by the Bank for International Settlements( BIS) Innovation Hub, to determine whether this can ease and make the transactions cheaper. CBDCs are digital forms of existing currencies that have blockchain at their core.
- In order to achieve the desired outcome, the project will explore various technical, governance, and operating designs and will publish its results in early 2022.
Public Sector lender UCO Bank has partnered with Finwizard Technology, which runs Fisdom, to offer wealth management products and services via its mBanking Plus App.
- This partnership aims at augmenting the bank’s customer value proposition by making high-quality wealth management services accessible, affordable and truly digital.

Coal India Ltd signs MoU with Dept of Sports for betterment of sports infrastructureCoal India Limited has signed an MoU with Department of Sports in New Delhi for betterment of sports infrastructure in the country.
- Under the MoU, Coal India Limited, under its Corporate Social Responsibility program will contribute 75 crore rupees towards the National Sports Development Fund.
- The fund will be used for construction of three large hostels meant for sports persons.
Gujarat Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon India to boost the export of MSME sector.
- The agreement would help the state’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector to reach the global market. This will also help to achieve the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
APPOINTMENTS
SL Tripathy appointed CMD of the United India InsuranceThe central government said S.L.Tripathy has been selected as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the city-based United India Insurance Company Limited.
- He is appointed as CMD of United India from the date of assumption of charge of the office and up to the date of his attaining the age of superannuation.
- Tripathy is currently General Manager and Director at The New India Assurance Company Limited.
The government has appointed Harsha Bhupendra Bangari as the managing director (MD) of Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank).
- Bangari, who is presently the deputy managing director at EXIM Bank, would be at the helm for a period of three years or until further orders of the government, said a notification.
Satish Parekh has taken over as president of India Chapter of International Road Federation, the Geneva based global road safety body working for better and safer roads world wide.
- He takes over from Dr Subhmay Gangopadhyay, former director, CRRI.
- Parakh is the promoter and MD of Ashoka Buildcon, one of the largest highway developers in India.

Odisha’s Manda buffalo 19th buffalo breed to be recognised by NBAGROdisha’s Manda buffalo, mostly found in Koraput district and adjoining areas of Malkangiri and Nabarangpur, has been recognised as an indigenous breed by the National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR).
- The latest inclusions took the number of indigenous breeds in the country to 202, including 19 types of buffalo, the nodal agency stated.
Prolific writer and Festival Director, Namita Gokhale will be awarded the Seventh Yamin Hazarika Woman of Substance Award 2021.
- The annual award honours Yamin Hazarika, the first woman from Northeast India to be selected for DANIPS, a federal police service that administered Delhi and the Union Territories in 1977.
- An award-winning writer, Gokhale has authored twenty books including eleven works of fiction. Her recent novel, Jaipur Journals, was released in 2020.
President Ram Nath Kovind awarded the President’s Colour to Indian Naval Aviation at INS Hansa in Goa.
- The President’s Colour is bestowed on a military unit, in recognition of exceptional service rendered to the nation, both in peace and during war.
- The special day cover was released by the President and the Chief Post Master General, Maharashtra and Goa and “Fly Navy, Fly”, a book depicting the transformation of Indian Naval Aviation was also released at the event.
OBITUARIES
BBC''s first Hindi news reader Rajni Kaul passes awayRajni Kaul, a distinguished broadcaster who became the first woman to read a news bulletin in Hindi on BBC nearly 60 years ago, passed away in Faridabad. She was 93.
- Kaul worked with All India Radio (AIR) in New Delhi before joining the Voice of America (VOA) in Washington and then BBC in London. She was the first woman to join BBC Hindi as a staffer and became the first woman to read a news bulletin in Hindi on the network in 1961.
- She was married to eminent broadcast journalist late Mahendra Kaul who also worked with the VOA and the BBC. They had settled down in London.
IMPORTANT DAYS
International Literacy DaySeptember 8 was proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO in 1966 to remind the international community of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies.
- The theme of International Literacy Day 2021 is "Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide”
