Assam declared as 'Disturbed Area' upto six months with effect from Aug 28 unless withdrawn earlier
The Assam Government in exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 has declared the entire State of Assam as Disturbed Area upto six months with effect from 28th of August this year unless withdrawn earlier. Agrarian festival ‘Nuakhai’ being celebrated in Odisha
In Odisha, Nuakhai, an important agrarian festival in the State is being celebrated on September 11,2021. As per the customary practice, people offer the new grains of crops to the deities before their own consumption.
  •  It is also a festival of social cohesion as all the members of the family come together to celebrate Nuakhai. Many cultural programs and sporting activities are being held across the state to mark the occasion.
Finance Ministry releases 6th monthly installment of Post-Devolution Revenue Deficit grant to States worth Rs 9871 cr
The Finance Ministry released the 6th monthly installment of Post-Devolution Revenue Deficit grant to the states worth nine thousand 871 crore rupees. A total of 59 thousand 226 crore rupees has been released to the states as Post-Devolution Revenue Deficit Grant in the current financial year.
  • The Post-Devolution Revenue Deficit Grant is provided to the states under Article 275 of the Constitution. The grants are being released as per the recommendations of the Fifteenth Finance Commission in monthly installments.
Govt to release over Rs 56,000 crores in current Financial Year to clear all pending export incentives
Government has said that it will release 56 thousand 27 crore rupees in the current Financial Year itself in order to disburse all pending export incentives due to exporters.
  • Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said, the amount will be disbursed to more than 45 thousand exporters and the amount will be disbursed this year only.
  • The amount is over and above duty remission of 12 thousand 454 crore rupees for the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) Scheme and 6 thousand 946 crore rupees for Rebate of State and Central Levies and Taxes (RoSCTL) Scheme already announced.
CBDT extends last dates for filing of Income Tax Returns to 31st December
The Central Board of Direct Taxes has further extended the due dates for filing of Income Tax Returns and various reports of audit for Assessment Year 2021-22.
  • The due date of furnishing of Return of Income for the Assessment Year 2021-22, which was earlier extended to 30th September, has been further extended to the 31st of December. The due date of furnishing of Report of Audit for the Previous Year 2020-21, which was earlier extended to the 31st of October has been further extended to the 15th of January next year.
India, Denmark jointly launch ‘Centre of Excellence on Offshore Wind’ as part of Green Strategic Partnership
Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy R. K. Singh met Denmark’s Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Dan Jørgensen in New Delhi.
  • The two Ministers jointly launched ‘Centre of Excellence on Offshore Wind’ as part of the Green Strategic Partnership.This Centre will at the outset be centred around four working groups, including spatial planning, financial framework conditions, supply chain infrastructure and standards, and testing.
  • Both the ministers agreed to further engagement in renewable energy, especially offshore wind and green hydrogen.
Centre hikes financial support from 9 to 70 crore rupees to open Ayush Colleges in the country
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said that the government has increased the financial support from nine crore to 70 crore rupees to ensure more Ayush colleges are opened across the country.
  • He said, there are only a few Ayush colleges in the North-East and the Indian traditional medicine systems can only be popularised by making available more qualified practitioners.
'Medicines from the Sky' project launched to send medicines to Primary Health Care Centres using drones
Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia has launched the Medicines from the Sky project to send medicines to Primary Health Care Centres using drones.
  • The project was launched at Vikarabad in Telangana. Drones carry a payload of vaccines and other medicines to Public Health Centers under the project.
  • The first sortie was carried out by a drone built by SkyAir Mobility for its Consortium partner Blue Dart Express and delivered a five-kg box of vaccines to a community Health Care Center located 3 kms away.


INTERNATIONAL NEWS

World's largest plant designed to suck carbon dioxide from air starts in Iceland
The world's largest plant designed to suck carbon dioxide out of the air and turning it into rock started running in Iceland.
  •  The plant, named Orca, after the Icelandic word orka meaning energy, consists of four units, each made up of two metal boxes, similar in appearance to the containers used for maritime transport.
  • Constructed by Switzerland's Climeworks and Iceland's Carbfix, when operating at capacity the plant will draw 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide out of the air every year.

CIL signs MoU with Assam Health Dept to strengthen infrastructure
Coal India Ltd or the CIL (under the Ministry of Coal) signed an MoU with Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Assam to strengthen the health infrastructure at Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Silchar, the only Medical College / Hospital in Barak Valley Region, Assam.
  • CIL will contribute Rs. 5 crores towards setting up an ICU facility and medical gas pipeline in the Silchar Medical College & Hospital, benefitting more than 40 lakh people here.

IOC suspends North Korea until end of 2022 after it failed to send a team to Tokyo Games
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended North Korea until the end of 2022 after it failed to send a team to the Tokyo Games. The suspension means the country will miss out on the Beijing Winter Games.
  • North Korea did not send a delegation to the Tokyo Games, saying it wanted to protect its athletes from Covid-19.

Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura takes charge as Chairman, National Commission for Minorities
Sardar Iqbal Singh Lalpura took charge as the Chairman, National Commission for Minorities in the presence of Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in New Delhi.
  • Lalpura replaced the outgoing chairperson of the Commission Ghayorul Hasan.
  • Lalpura was the national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party from Punjab before taking over as Chairman of the Commission.
Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani resigns
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani resigned from the post. According to sources, Chief Minister Rupani met the Governor Acharya Devvrat and handed over his resignation. Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and party’s Gujarat in-Charge Bhupendra Yadav  accompanied him.
  • The resignation of Mr. Vijay Rupani from the post of Chief Minister is a clear indication of change in leadership before the coming Assembly Elections in the state. The State Assembly elections are scheduled to be held before December 2022.
Aziz Akhannouch named as Morocco's new Prime Minister
King Mohammed VI of Morocco has appointed Aziz Akhannouch of the liberal National Rally of Independents (RNI) party as Prime Minister and asked him to form a government.
  • RNI emerged as the biggest party in Parliamentary election, crushing the Islamists who had led the country for a decade. Mr Aziz Akhannouch is a billionaire seen as close to the monarchy.
New government announced in Lebanon; Najib Mikati becomes PM
A new government has been announced in Lebanon over a year after the previous administration quit following the devastating Beirut port explosion.
  • Najib Mikati - Lebanon's richest man - becomes Prime Minister, a position he has held twice before. His appointment, along with the naming of a new cabinet, ends months of political paralysis.
  • It comes as Lebanon grapples with some of the severest domestic crises it has faced in its history.

Super typhoon Chanthu threatens Philippines, Taiwan
A super typhoon that rapidly formed in just 48 hours is threatening both the Philippines and Taiwan with destructive winds and torrential rains over the coming days.
  • The typhoon named “Chanthu” was about 580 kilometres southeast of Taiwan’s southernmost tip, packing gusts of up to 234 kilometres an hour, according to Taiwan’s central weather bureau

World Suicide Prevention Day
World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on September 10 each year to promote worldwide action to prevent suicides. Various events and activities are held during this occasion to raise awareness that suicide is a major preventable cause of premature death.
  • The World Suicide Prevention Day theme this year is - “Creating Hope Through Action”. The day is a positive message that motivates people to come out of problems and cooperate with this complicated issue.
