Mixed Quantitative Aptitude Questions Set 192

  1. Harish sold a chair for Rs. 2000 and incurred a loss. Had harish sold the item for Rs. 3600, his gain would have been equal to three times of the amount of loss that he incurred. At what price should he sell the chair to gain 20 %?
    Rs. 2880
    Rs. 4480
    Rs. 5280
    Rs. 9080
    Rs. 6080
    Option A
    Loss = C.P – 2000
    Profit = 3600 – C.P
    Profit = 3*Loss
    3600 – C.P = 3 * [C.P – 2000]
    3600 – C.P = 3C.P – 6000
    9600 = 4C.P
    C.P = 9600/4 = Rs. 2400
    SP = 2400 * (120/100) = Rs. 2880

  2. The sum of lengths of Sadhapthi express and Rajdhani express is 640 m. The speed of train Sadhapthi to that of Rajdhani is in the ratio of 3 : 4. The time taken by Sadhapthi express and Rajdhani express to cross an electronic pole is in the ratio of 4 : 5. Find the difference between the length of the two expresses?
    120
    140
    160
    180
    200
    Option C
    Let the length of Sadhapthi express be x m,
    So, the length of Rajdhani express = 640 – x
    The speed of Sadhapthi to that of Rajdhani is in the ratio = 3 : 4 (3y, 4y)
    Time = Length of train / Speed
    4 = x / 3y
    x = 12y -> (1)
    (640 – x) / 4y = 5
    640 – x = 20y
    640 – 12y = 20y
    640 = 32y
    y = 20
    The length of Sadhapthi = x = 12 * 20 = 240 m
    The length of Rajdhani = 640 – x = 640 – 240 = 400 m
    Required difference = 400 – 240 = 160 m

  3. The speed of the ship in still water is 36 km/hr and the speed of stream is 12 km/hr. The time taken by ship to travel from A to B downstream is 3 ½ hours less to travel from B to C upstream. If the distance between A to B is 24 km more than the distance between B to C, then find the distance between A to B?
    200
    145
    210
    216
    234
    Option D
    The speed of downstream = 36 + 12 = 48 km/hr
    The speed of upstream = 36 – 12 = 24 km/hr
    Let the distance between B to C be x km,
    The distance between A to B = (x + 24) km
    Given,
    x / 24 – (x + 24) / 48 = 7/2
    (2x – x – 24) / 48 = 7/2
    x – 24 = 168
    x = 192
    The distance between A to B = x + 24 = 192 + 24 = 216 km

  4. Person 1 and person 2 are 585 km away and both of them start moving towards each other at the same time. After some time when person 1 has travelled 360 km he meets Person 2. What is the ratio of the speed of person 1 to that of person 2?
    2:3
    4:5
    2:5
    1:4
    None of these
    Option

  5. A mixture of oil and water in a jar contains 32 liters oil and 10 liters water. A liter of oil and A liter of water is added to a new mixture. If 40 % of new mixture is 24 liters, then find the value of X (In liters)?
    5
    7
    9
    11
    13
    Option C
    (40/100) * New mixture = 24
    New mixture = 24 * (5/2) = 60 liters
    Given,
    32 + A + 10 + A = 60
    42 + 2A = 60
    2A = 18
    A= 9

  6. 5 years ago, the age of Person 1 and 7 years hence, the age of Person 2 is in the ratio of 1: 2. 5 years hence, the age of Person 1 and Person 2 is in the ratio of 15: 19. Find the present age of Person 2?
    34
    33
    32
    31
    30
    Option B
    5 years ago, the age of Person 1 and 7 years hence, the age of Person 2 is in the ratio = 1 : 2 (x, 2x)
    Present age of Person 1 and Person 2 = x + 5, 2x – 7
    5 years hence, the age of Person 1 and Person 2 is in the ratio = 15 : 19
    By question,
    = > (x + 5 + 5) / (2x – 7 + 5) = (15/19)
    = > (x + 10) / (2x – 2) = (15/19)
    = > 19x + 190 = 30x – 30
    = > 11x = 220
    = > x = 20
    The present age of Person 2 = 2x – 7 = 33 years

  7. Three men started a business by investing Rs. 30000, Rs. 40000 and Rs. 50000 respectively. Man 1 is a working partner and Man2 and Man 3 is a sleeping partner in a business. For managing the business, Man 1 will get 10 % of profit and the remaining will be shared by three of them. Find the difference between the share of Man 1 and Man 2, if the total profit at the end of the year is Rs. 92000?
    2300
    2100
    2500
    3400
    3330
    Option A
    Man 1 get = 92000 * (10/100) = Rs. 9200
    Remaining = 92000 – 9200 = Rs. 82800
    The share of three,
    = > 30000 : 40000 : 50000
    = > 3 : 4 : 5
    12’s = 82800
    1’s = 6900
    The share of Man1 = 9200 + (3 * 6900) = Rs. 29900
    The share of Man 2 = (4 * 6900) = Rs. 27600
    Required difference = 29900 – 27600 = Rs. 2300

  8. Makesh got compund interest on a certain sum for 3 years at 15 % per annum is Rs. 20835, then find the corresponding simple interest he got for the same sum?
    12000
    16000
    18000
    20000
    22000
    Option C
    Let the sum of money be x,
    x * [(1 + (15/100))3 – 1] = 20835
    x * [(115/100)3 – 1] = 20835
    x * [(12167/8000) – 1] = 20835
    x * (4167/8000) = 20835
    x = 20835 * (8000 / 4167) = Rs. 40000
    Corresponding SI:
    SI = (40000 * 3 * 15) / 100 = Rs. 18000

  9. 8 Males and 6 Females can do a work in 12 days. 10 males and 6 females can do the same work in 10 days. How long will 12 males and 8 females can take to do the work?
    7 2/11
    5 2/11
    10 2/11
    8 2/11
    4 2/11
    Option D
    Total work = (male (or) female) * days
    Work equal. So,
    (8 m + 6 f) * 12 = (10 m + 6 f) * 10
    48 m + 36 f = 50 m + 30 f
    6 f = 2 m
    3 f = 1 m
    8 m + 6 f = 24 f + 6 f = 30 f
    12 m + 8 f = 36 f + 8 f = 44 f
    Female days
    30 12
    44 ?
    (30 * 12) = (44 *x)
    x = (30 * 12) / 44 = 8 2/11 days

    5
    6
    7
    3
    1
    Option B
    Possibilities of getting the difference of the dice is divisible by 3
    = > (1, 4), (2, 5), (3, 6), (4, 1), (5, 2), (6, 3) = 6
