ADB To Invest $50 million In Solar Power Project Developer Avaada

Asian Development Bank (ADB) said it has inked an agreement to invest USD 50 million in solar energy project developer Avaada Energy Pvt Ltd to help the company scale up rapidly. The investment will come equally from ADB's Ordinary Capital Resources and Leading Asia's Private Infrastructure Fund (LEAP).

  • The project will contribute to the strategy of the government to increase the share of renewable energy generation capacity from about 20 per cent in 2018 to 40 per cent by 2030. LEAP is a funding arrangement provided by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which is administered by ADB.

Xiaomi Launches Mi Pay, UPI-Based Payments App in India

Xiaomi launched Mi Pay, its very own Unified Payments Interface (UPI) based payments service in India. The app is already available in China and was first introduced in India last December in beta mode.

  • The Chinese electronics company partnered with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) who approved it and ICICI Bank to launch the app in India.

Nepal: India-funded Siddheshwar Education Public Campus inaugurated

The campus building for Siddheshwar Education Public Campus in Bamti Bhandar of Ramechhap district was inaugurated in a public function organised jointly by the District Coordination Committee and Campus Management Committee. The new infrastructure constructed with the Indian Government's grant assistance of NRs 35.50 million.

  • The newly built infrastructure will not only boost the learning environment of students but also enhance access to education for the needy, poor and marginalised students of Ramechhap district and adjoining area.

  • Written by economic and political commentator Salman Anees Soz, the book is also a critical assessment of five years of the brand of economics Modi has championed, often referred to as 'Modinomics'. It was published by Penguin Random House India.

In a 1st, SpiceJet Joins International Air Transport Association

SpiceJet has joined global airlines' grouping IATA as a member, becoming the first Indian low-cost carrier to get the membership. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) represents more than 290 airlines, including Air India, Jet Airways and Vistara. 

  • The membership would help SpiceJet, which has ambitious expansion plans, to have codeshares and agreements with other carriers.

Aamir Khan Appointed as PhonePe's Brand Ambassador

PhonePe, India’s fastest growing payments platform announced appointed of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan as its brand Ambassador. PhonePe is also an official co-presenting sponsor for the television broadcast of VIVO IPL 2019, and will be launching a series of new TV ads featuring Aamir Khan during this season.

  • TV ads and his mass appeal as a national icon will help PhonePe create awareness about the benefits of digital payments for users across India.


Vice Admiral Karambir Singh appointed as next Navy Chief



Vice Admiral Karambir Singh will be the next Chief of Naval Staff. He will be appointed after Admiral Sunil Lanba, who retires in May this year, vacates office. He is serving as the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.

  • Commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1980, the officer earned his wings as a helicopter pilot in 1982. In his 36-year-old career, the officer has commanded an Indian Coast Guard Ship, a Naval Missile Corvette as well as Guided Missile Destroyers.

Karnataka Minister Shivalli passes away



Karnataka Minister for Municipal Administration C.S. Shivalli suffered a massive heart attack and passed away in Hubballi. He was 58. Channabasappa Satyappa Shivalli was a three-time MLA from Kundagol constituency in Dharwad district. He won his first election as an independent candidate in 1999.








IMPORTANT DAYS


Martyr’s Day



Martyrs day in India is celebrated to pay homage to the victims who fought for the freedom, welfare and progress of the India and sacrificed their lives. On 23 March, India marks Martyrs’ Day in the memories of three freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who were hanged to death on this day in Lahore Central Jail in 1931. The day is also known as Shaheed Diwas.

World Tuberculosis Day

World TB Day, which is observed on 24 March every year, is designed to raise public awareness regarding the epidemic of TB (tuberculosis) and efforts of eliminating the disease. The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease.

  • The theme for World TB Day 2019 will be ‘It’s TIME’.
