NATIONAL NEWS

Giriraj Singh launches Unique Land Parcel Identification Numbers, says it's Aadhaar of lands
Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh inaugurated 'Bhumi Samvaad' - a National Workshop on Digital India Land Record Modernisation Programme (DILRMP) at India Habitat Centre in the national capital.
  • Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN) of land parcel is similar to the Aadhar number of an individual. In this unique system, a unique ID based on Geo-coordinates of the parcels is generated and assigned to the plots. This has been introduced to share the computerized digital land record data among different States/Sectors and a uniform system of assigning a unique ID to the land parcel across the country.
  • So far it has already been implemented in 13 States and pilot tested in another 6 States. Department has decided to complete the process of assigning unique IDs to the land parcels in the entire country by the end of this financial year, (FY 2021-22). When this system will be implemented in the entire country most of the land disputes will be resolved automatically.
  • On this occasion, the Minister also launched National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) portal and Dashboard.


INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Operation Hercules: Army, IAF prepare for winter deployment amid Ladakh standoff
The Indian Army and Air Force carried out a joint exercise to assess their logistics supply chain.
  • The exercise named 'Operation Hercules' was undertaken by the Indian Air Force and Indian Army on November 15 with transport aircraft of the IAF being pressed into action.
  • The platforms utilised for the airlift were C-17, IL-76 and An-32 aircraft, which took off from one of the forward bases of Western Air Command
  • The aim of this high intensity airlift was to strengthen the supply chain in the Northern sector and augment winter stocking in operational areas.

Mswipe, OneCard partner to offer no-cost EMI at POS 
Mswipe said it has partnered with OneCard, a mobile-first credit card company, to offer no-cost Equated Monthly Instalments (EMIs) across its network of 250,000 retailers.
  • The partnership will enable users of OneCard to seamlessly access no- or low-interest EMIs, while availing mid- and high-value purchases at retail outlets powered by Mswipe terminals, the company said.
SBI signs pact with U Gro Capital for co-lending to MSMEs
State Bank of India has entered into a co-lending agreement with fintech firm U GRO Capital to offer financing solutions to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the lender said.
  • Through this collaboration, SBI and U GRO Capital aim to disburse up to Rs 500 crore by March 2022 to provide credit to MSMEs.
  • The agreement is in line with Reserve Bank of India guidelines. The co-lending agreement aims to enhance last-mile connect, financially empower MSMEs and further drive financial inclusion in the country.
HDFC Bank launches micro-credit facility for PM SVANidhi scheme
HDFC Bank announced the launch of micro-credit facility for street vendors, PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi), with common service centres (CSC).
  • HDFC Bank would facilitate PM SVANidhi for its village-level entrepreneurs (VLEs) on the digital sewa portal where vendors can complete the entire process online. It is a collateral-free affordable loan of ₹10,000 with an interest subsidy of 7%.
  • The bank said that VLEs must understand the loan application requirements, ensure the mobile number is linked to the Aadhaar and check the eligibility status of their application as per the scheme rules.
NSDL e-Governance gets RBI's in-principle approval as Account Aggregator
NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure, IT-enabled services provider, said it has received an in-principle approval from RBI to set up an account aggregator business under its wholly owned subsidiary, NSDL e-Governance Account Aggregator Ltd. NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure issues PAN cards and helps government agencies in e-governance projects.
  • It has been at the forefront in laying out the e-governance infrastructure for the country and providing citizen-centric services at population scale.
  • The account aggregator (AA) model has the potential to transform the way financial services are delivered through a unique architecture for consent-based data sharing, according to a statement.
India, world's largest recipient of remittances, received USD 87 bn in 2021
India received USD 87 billion in remittances in 2021 as compared to USD 83 billion received in remittances in 2020, as per a World Bank report.
  • The United States (US) was the biggest source, accounting for more than 20 per cent of the funds.
  • India is followed by China, Mexico, the Philippines, and Egypt. In India, remittances are projected to grow three per cent in 2022 to $89.6 bn, reflecting a drop in overall migrant stock, as a large proportion of returnees from the Arab countries await the return.
  • Remittances to low and middle income countries are projected to have grown a strong 7.3 pc to reach $589 bn in 2021. This return to growth is more robust than earlier estimates and follows the resilience of flows in 2020 when remittances declined by only 1.7 per cent.

India to co-host 2026 ICC T20 WC with Sri Lanka; Pakistan to host 2025 Champions Trophy
Major cricket event will return to Pakistan after more than two decades with the country set to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, an ICC flagship tournament.
  • The ICC board awarded the hosting rights of the 2025 Champions Trophy to Pakistan, while picking United States and West Indies as co-host of the 2024 T20 World Cup. This will be the first ever global event hosted in North America.
  • According to the announcement, India will get to host three ICC events in the next cycle, including the 2026 T20 World Cup and 2031 50-over World Cup, where the country will be Co hosts along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh respectively. India will also host the 2029 Champions Trophy singularly.


SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

India's First Gravitational Waves Research Facility To Come Up In Maharashtra's Hingoli
The Hingoli revenue department has handed over 225 hectare of land here in Maharashtra to authorities of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) project for setting up the first such facility in the country.
  • There are currently a couple of such labs in the US - at Hanford in Washington and Livingston in Louisiana - which study the gravitational waves.
  • The project will provide opportunities to scientists and engineers to dig deeper into the realm of gravitational waves.
