J&K and Dubai govts sign MoU for development of real estate, industrial parks & super specialty hospitals in UTIn a historic move, Jammu and Kashmir administration and the Dubai Government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for real estate development, industrial parks, super specialty hospital and various business enterprises in the Union Territory.
- Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, with the signing of the MoU with Dubai Government, the world has started to recognize the pace with which Jammu and Kashmir is traversing on the development bandwagon.
- He said different entities from Dubai have shown keen interest in investment and the recent industrial package of 28,400 Crore rupees is a testimony towards ensured development of the Union Territory.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi launched 'Mera Ghar Mere Naam' scheme to give ownership rights to people living in houses within the 'lal lakir' of villages and cities.
- The revenue department has been mandated to undertake drone surveys of such residential properties in rural and urban areas for digital mapping.
- The CM said that another “path-breaking scheme” Basera is providing relief to people residing in slum areas outside the lal lakir by giving ownership right to them. The power connections disconnected due to non-payment of bills will be reconnected by Diwali. Nearly 52 lakh of of 72 lakh consumers across the state will benefit from it.
As a tribute to the freedom fighters of Manipur, the Union government has decided to rename Mount Harriet, an island peak in Andaman and Nicobar islands. It will now be known as Mount Manipur. It was announced by Union home minister Amit Shah.
- Shah said Manipur played a significant role in resisting the British in the Northeast during the 1857 revolution and in 1891. Manipur never gave up and the people there continued to fight.

Russia-China holds naval drill “Joint Sea 2021” in Sea of JapanThe China and Russia joint naval exercises “Joint Sea 2021” kicked off at Russia’s Peter the Great Gulf, in the Sea of Japan.
- During the war game, the combined force would practice shooting at targets designed to imitate enemy surface ships and hold air-defence drills.
Chairman of Indian Council for Cultural Relations ICCR Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe has said that as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, India will host young leaders from 75 democracies under the initiative Gen-Next Democratic Network.
- Dr Sahasrabuddhe said, young leaders below the age of 35 from the ruling party, opposition party and other key parties are being invited and the first batch will include leaders from Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Japan, Indonesia, Chile and Zambia.
Ecuador, the South American country, has declared a state of emergency over crime wave. Ecuador's President Guillermo Lasso announced a 60-day state of emergency amidst a rise in violent drug crimes.
- The announcement came on the eve of a visit by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. The two leaders will discuss questions of security, defence and trade.
- The South American country is grappling with a surge in violent crime and deadly prison riots. The government has pointed to drug trafficking and consumption as the underlying problem.

RBI imposes penalty of one crore on SBI, 1.95 crore on Standard Chartered BankThe Reserve Bank of India has imposed a monetary penalty of one crore rupees on the State Bank of India and 1.95 crore rupees on Standard Chartered Bank.
- RBI said, State Bank has been penalised for violating norms related to delay in reporting of fraud while Standard Chartered Bank has been penalised for violating norms related to customer protection and cyber security framework.
The Reserve Bank of India(RBI) has authorised Karur Vysya Bank to collect direct taxes on behalf of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
- Following the approval received, KVB has initiated the integration process with CBDT. Once completed, KVB customers can remit their Direct Taxes through any branch, Net Banking and DLite Mobile app.

Vodafone Idea teams up with L&T for trials of 5G-based smart city solutionsTelecom operator Vodafone Idea (VIL) and smart world and communication business of engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen and Toubro (L&T) have joined hands for a pilot project to test 5G-based smart city solutions.
- This is part of the ongoing 5G trials on government-allocated spectrum.
- The pilot project would be set up in Pune on government-allocated 5G spectrum to visualise and analyse smart city applications.

Nagaland to host South Asian Cross Country ChampionshipNagaland will host the South Asian Athletics Federation (SAAF) Cross Country Championship in the state capital Kohima on January 15 next year.
- Making the announcement during a press conference, Nagaland Athletic Association (NAA) President Abu Metha said the biggest international event ever hosted by the state will be held along with the 56th National Cross Country Race on January 15.
Nineteen-year-old Indian Grandmaster Iniyan Panneerselvam has won the La Nucia Open held in Spain.
- The Grandmaster remained remained unbeaten with an Elo rating of 2529 at La Nucia, which is a 9-round Swiss tournament.

Rahul Dravid appointed as Team India head coach, Paras Mhambrey roped in as bowling coachFormer Indian batter Rahul Dravid has been appointed head coach of Team India, who will replace Ravishastry, who will lead after the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Sahdev Yadav was elected the president of the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF). Yadav, who held the post of secretary general, was elected unanimously.

Indian agri waste recycling project wins Prince William’s Earthshot PrizeA Delhi-based entrepreneur’s agricultural waste recycling project was named among the winners of Prince William’s inaugural Earthshot Prize, dubbed the “Eco Oscars”, at a gala ceremony in London.
- Vidyut Mohan led Takachar was named the winner of the GBP 1 million prize for its cheap technology innovation to convert crop residues into sellable bio-products in the “clean our air” category.
- It was among five worldwide winners of the prize, created by Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, to reward people trying to save the planet.
The Indian Army won a Gold Medal at the Cambrian Patrol Exercise held in the UK while competing against 96 teams representing special forces and regiments from around the world.
- The Gorkha Rifles Frontier Force represented the Indian Army at the drill held at Brecon, Wales. The event is considered the ultimate test of human endurance and team spirit and is considered the Olympics of Military Patrolling.
- The Indian Army team performed well in harsh terrain and inclement weather. These conditions added to the challenges of simulated situations to assess the reaction of the teams in a combat setting.

NITI Aayog launches Geospatial Energy Map of IndiaNITI Aayog launched the Geospatial Energy Map of India. The map attempts to identify and locate all primary and secondary sources of energy and their transportation networks to provide a comprehensive view of energy production and distribution in a country.
- NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation has developed the comprehensive Geographic Information System Energy Map with the support of Energy Ministries of India.
- The GIS map provides a holistic picture of all energy resources of the country which enables visualisation of energy installations such as conventional power plants, oil and gas wells, petroleum refineries, coal fields and coal blocks, district-wise data on renewable energy power plants and renewable energy resource potential.
China has successfully launched its 1st solar exploration satellite into space from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern Shanxi Province aboard a Long March-2D rocket.
- The satellite was named as ‘Xihe’ also known as the Chinese Hα Solar Explorer (CHASE). The satellite has been developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).
Earth Sciences Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has launched Air Quality Early Warning System on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav week.
- The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology has developed a new Decision Support System and extended the ability of the existing air quality early warning system to have decision-making capability for air quality management. Air warning System integrated with the Decision Support System will become a user-friendly tool for air-quality management in and around Delhi.
- A dedicated website has been created to deliver quantitative information about the contribution of emissions from Delhi and the surrounding 19 districts to the air quality in Delhi.
