India's first Atal Community Innovation Center launched by Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur
Atal Community Innovation Center was inaugurated at Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur, Jagatpura.
  • It will be the first center in the whole of India which will be set up by Government of India, Atal Innovation Mission. (AIM) and NITI Aayog. It is a matter of great pride for VGU.
  • ACIC aims to support and nurture innovative ideas that can take the shape of big ideas and help transform society for a better tomorrow. This center, started under the joint aegis of NITI Aayog and 'Atal Innovation Mission', will benefit the hardworking, passionate and courageous businessmen of Rajasthan who want to take their business towards heights.
Manipur CM launches “Chief Minister’s Health for All” scheme
In Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh launched the “Chief Minister’s Health for All”. Door-to-door health screening will be conducted across the State and Jan Aushadhi medicines will be provided to patients free of cost for primary health care under the scheme.
  • The Chief Minister Gi Hakchel Gi Tengbal (CM Health Care Scheme) and Ayushman Bharat health cards will also be issued to the patients having severe and chronic illness, if eligible. The Chief Minister also distributed ASHA Plus devices, smartphones and tablets to CHOs, Nurses and ASHA workers for the newly launched campaign.
  • During the campaign Screening will be done using a hand-held device known as ASHA Plus for 10 non-communicable diseases, viz. Hypertension, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Kidney Ailments, Respiratory Disease like COPD, three common Cancers (Oral, Breast and Cervical), Mental Health problems and Stroke/Post Stroke.

India re-elected to UN Human Rights Council for record 6th term with overwhelming majority
India has been re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council for a record 6th term with an overwhelming majority.
  • Permanent Mission of India in UN said, India stands committed to work together with fellow members of the Council towards the goal of global promotion and protection of human rights. It expressed gratitude to the UN membership for reposing its faith in India.
India retains 3rd position in RE investment attractiveness index
India has retained the third rank in the Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index for the third consecutive years, released by consultancy firm EY.
  • The US, mainland China and India continue to retain the top three rankings and Indonesia is a new entrant to the RECAI.The top-performing markets have held their ground in this latest issue – with no movement into or out of the top eight.
  • France (fourth position, up by one) and the UK (fifth position, down by one), while Germany (sixth position, up by one) has edged back ahead of Australia (seventh position, down by one).
  • A new PPA Index – introduced in this edition of RECAI – focuses on the attractiveness of renewable power procurement and ranks the growth potential of a nation’s corporate PPA market.


BANKING & FINANCE

Saraswat Bank ties up with Axis Securities to integrate banking with investing
Saraswat Bank has tied up with Axis Securities to offer its customers investing services through a 3-in-1 account.
  • The facility will integrate savings bank account maintained by the co-operative bank with the demat and trading account offered by Axis Securities, which is a subsidiary of Axis Bank, Saraswat Bank said.
  • This 3-in-1 account will make it easier for customers to transfer funds quickly, reduce paperwork and provide a comprehensive platform to invest in various investment instruments like stocks, derivatives, currency, commodities, mutual funds and IPO,  the bank said.
ADB Raises 2019–2030 Climate Finance Ambition to $100 Billion
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said it is elevating its ambition to deliver climate financing to its developing member countries by $20 billion to $100 billion from 2019–2030.
  • In 2018, ADB committed to ensuring at least 75% of the total number of its operations support climate action and its own climate finance resources reach at least a cumulative $80 billion by 2030.
  •  Today’s announcement elevates the ambition of this financing. ADB expects the cumulative climate financing from its own resources in 2019–2021 to reach about $17 billion.
IndusInd Bank gets authorised by RBI to collect direct and indirect taxes
IndusInd Bank has been authorised by the Reserve Bank of India for collection of direct and indirect taxes on behalf of the Central Board of Direct Taxes and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.
  • With this, IndusInd Bank customers will soon be able to pay their Direct and Indirect taxes through the Bank's state-of-the-art digital platforms such as 'Indusnet' - its net banking platform and 'IndusMobile' - its mobile banking application. Additionally, customers can even walk into their nearest branch to avail this service.
Kotak Mahindra Bank launches Micro ATMs across India 
Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd (KMBL) launch Micro ATMs across the country.
  • Customers of all banks who possess a debit card can use a Kotak Micro ATM for key banking services such as cash withdrawals and checking account balances. A mini version of an ATM, micro ATMs are small handheld devices.

India Post launches e-PLI bond/ digital version of PLI policy bonds
The Department of Posts launched a digital version of the postal life insurance policy - ePLI bond, which subscribers can access through Digilocker.
  • The Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) policy bonds are available in the 'electronic form', and the digital copy will be treated as a valid policy document by the department for all transactions, the Department of Posts (DoP) said.
  • ePLI bond is the department's first digital integration with Digilocker, which will facilitate citizens in a meaningful way by providing ease of access and quick claim settlements.
Shivalik Small Finance Bank partners with Go Digit Insurance
Shivalik Small Finance Bank announced a strategic partnership with Bengaluru-based insurtech company, Go Digit General Insurance, to provide an array of instant, easy-to-understand insurance products through the bank’s network of branches across India.
  • This will include health insurance plans, motor insurance, and home and shop insurance.
  • This partnership will enable over 4.5 lakh customers of Shivalik Small Finance Bank to instantly access and purchase from Digit’s list of offerings, through paperless processes, in real time.

STPI and SINE-IIT Bombay sign MoU to strengthen startup ecosystem
Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), an organisation under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), AIC STPINEXT Initiatives (STPINEXT) have signed a tripartite non-financial MoU with SINE-IIT Bombay for fostering entrepreneurship and nurturing tech start-ups.
  • The signing of the MoU with SINE-IIT Bombay will strengthen the collaboration for leveraging the latter’s expertise and knowledge to empower startups incubated at STPI Motion, Pune, learn and garner experience to scale up their ventures.
Govt accords 'Maharatna' status to Power Finance Corporation
Government of India accorded the prestigious 'Maharatna' status to state-owned Power Finance Corporation (PFC), thus giving PFC greater operational and financial autonomy," the company said.
  • The grant of 'Maharatna' status to PFC will impart enhanced powers to PFC's board while taking financial decisions.
  • The new recognition will enable Power Finance Corporation to offer competitive financing for the power sector. It will go a long way in making available affordable and reliable ‘Power for All 24x7”.

Ireland's Amy Hunter becomes world's youngest ODI centurion
Ireland's Amy Hunter became the youngest player to score an ODI century, striking an unbeaten 121 to take her side to a win against Zimbabwe on her 16th birthday, bettering the record previously held by India's Mithali Raj.
  • Hunter, playing only her fourth ODI, struck eight boundaries in her 127-ball knock as Ireland beat Zimbabwe by 85 runs.
  • Hunter made her international debut against Scotland in May aged 15.She is just the fourth woman to hit an ODI century for Ireland and the first since 2000.

Sajjan Jindal appointed chairman of World Steel Association
World Steel Association (WSA) has elected Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Steel Ltd, as Chairman for the year 2021-22.
  • Jindal is the first representative from India to serve as Chairman of the WSA.
  • JSW Steel is the flagship business of the diversified $13 billion JSW Group and engaged in the manufacturing of iron and steel products in India and across the globe.
Meera Mohanty appointed as JS in PMO, Ritesh Chauhan will be CEO, PM Fasal Bima Yojana
Senior bureaucrats Meera Mohanty and Ritesh Chauhan have been appointed as the joint secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and the chief executive officer of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana respectively as part of a bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre.
  • Uma Nanduri, a 1993-batch Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officer of the Odisha cadre, will be the joint secretary in the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav secretariat under the Ministry of Culture, the order said.
  • Vipul Bansal will be the joint secretary in the Department of Commerce and Ashish Kumar has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs.
  •  Pawan Kumar Sain has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister, Niti Aayog.
  • Amitesh Kumar Sinha will be Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Sameer Shukla, Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Saumya Gupta, Joint Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Harish Chandra, Joint Secretary, NHRC and Kuldip Narayan will be Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Hospitality firm OYO said it has appointed Paralympian Deepa Malik as an independent director on the company's board.

Indian American Satya Nadella, the Microsoft CEO, is among the corporate leaders to receive this year's prestigious C K Prahlad award for Global Business Sustainability Leadership.
  • Four of Microsoft's top leaders -- Nadella along with its president and vice chair Brad Smith, chief financial officer Amy Hood and chief environment officer Lucas Joppa -- received the prestigious honour for their collaborative leadership aimed at transforming Microsoft into a carbon negative company by 2030 and to remove all its historical emissions by 2050.

  • Ease of parking through the app will also help reduce pollution from vehicles by minimizing the time spent searching for parking spots.
Department of Biotechnology launches country’s first ‘One Health’ consortium
Department of Biotechnology has launched the country’s first ‘One Health’ consortium.
  • This programme envisages carrying out surveillance of important bacterial, viral and parasitic infections of zoonotic and transboundary pathogens in India.
  • This Consortium consisting of 27 organisations is one of the biggest one health programs launched by Govt of India in post-COVID times.
