India, France, Australia hold first Trilateral Dialogue with focus on Indo-PacificThe foreign ministers of India, France, and Australia are set to hold a first trilateral meet in New Delhi to discuss steps to strengthen maritime security and other Indo-pacific issues.
- The trilateral meet was attended by heads of state of Rwanda and Denmark and other 10 foreign ministers while PM Modi was attended the opening and closing sessions of the event.
- The three foreign ministers will also be discussing the global security environment and the Chinese posture in the Indo-Pacific.

Nabard gives Rs 9,162 cr fin aid to West Bengal in FY20The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has given financial support of Rs 9,162 crore to the state during the last financial year for the development of agriculture and allied sectors amid Covid-19 pandemic.
- The financial supports included Rs 1269.2crore loan to the state government for various rural infrastructure development, Rs 3842.3 crore long-term refinance assistance to Rural Financial Institutions (RFIs) for financing investment activities in agriculture and allied sectors and MSME sector, and Rs 3757.5 crore short-term refinance to RFIs for supporting production and marketing activities of farmers and rural artisans.
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) has issued guidelines on Bharat Yatra Suraksha, the standard domestic travel insurance product, that will provide coverage for hospitalization expenses, death, permanent complete or partial disablement due to an accident, for travel through taxi, bus, train, ship, and airplane in the country.
- The base cover will provide coverage for hospitalization expenses ranging from Rs1 lakh to Rs10 lakh and an accidental death benefit ranging from Rs1 lakh to Rs1 crore. Optional covers include coverage for missed flight connections, loss of checked-in baggage, trip delays beyond three hours, and cancellations.
- As the proposed product will be issued as per journey and trip, policyholders won’t be able to renew the policy, however, extension on payment of premium has been permitted.
BUSINESS & ECONOMY
With Rs 55,500 crore m-cap, SAIL enters 100 most-valued Indian firms' clubSteel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) regained market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 50,000 crore, after its stock climbed over 80 per cent in the past one and half month, on expectations of strong earnings in March quarter (Q4FY21) and a healthy outlook going forward.
- The state-owned steel major also entered into the league of top 100 most valued companies in terms of market capitalisation.
- SAIL stood at 78th position in the overall m-cap ranking with a market cap of Rs 55,529 crore, BSE data shows.
Serum Institute of India (SII) is expanding its vaccine business in the United Kingdom with an investment of £240 million.
- The serum has already started phase one trials in the UK of a one-dose nasal vaccine for coronavirus, in partnership with Codagenix INC.
- This was a part of the £533 million of new Indian investment in the UK in growing sectors such as health and technology.
Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (TEMA) has signed a pact with Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) to jointly promote 'AtmaNirbhar Bharat', and facilitate investment and manufacturing in areas such as telecom and ICT, according to a statement.
- TEMA will come on board as a partner organisation for CONNEXT 2021 – ICCC's 10 days-10 states virtual trade mission to India from June 11-25, 2021.
- 'Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce partners with TEMA to promote AtmaNirbhar Bharat, Make in India, investment and manufacturing.'

Chennai-based CIBA develops India's first vaccine for killer virus targeting fishIn a major breakthrough, the Chennai-based Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA) has developed the country's first vaccine for deadly viral nervous necrosis (VNN) disease, which is currently affecting several species of fish.
- Scientists say the VNN disease is a serious threat affecting many marine, brackishwater and freshwater fish causing up to 100% mortality in larval and early juvenile stages.
- The disease is caused by nervous necrosis virus (NNV). Red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV) is the only genotype prevalent in India and most other tropical countries.
- The vaccine can be used in all species susceptible to VNN such as Asian seabass, milkfish, grey mullet, mangrove red snapper etc."
China has launched a new remote sensing satellite, Yaogan-34, into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
- The Yaogan-34 satellite was carried by a Long March-4C rocket and successfully entered its planned It was the 368th flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.
- The optical remote sensing satellite will be used for the survey of land resources, urban planning, the confirmation of land rights, road network design, crop yield estimation, and disaster prevention and reduction. It will also provide information services for the construction of the Belt and Road.
IBM unveiled a breakthrough in semiconductor design and process with the development of the world's first chip announced with 2 nanometer (nm) nanosheet technology.
- IBM's new 2 nm chip technology helps advance the state-of-the-art in the semiconductor industry, addressing this growing demand.
- It is projected to achieve 45 percent higher performance, or 75 percent lower energy use, than today's most advanced 7 nm node chipsi.
OBITUARIES
Chhichhore actress Abhilasha Patil passes awayActress Abhilasha Patil, who featured in films like 'Good Newwz', 'Badrinath Ki Dulhania' and 'Chhichhore', passed away due to Covid-19 complications. She was in her early 40s.
- Apart from Bollywood movies, Patil also appeared in Marathi films such as 'Te Aath Diwas', Bayko Deta Ka Bayko', 'Prawaas', 'Pipsi' and 'Tujha Majha Arrange Marriage.
Renowned social activist and Padma Shri awardee Gutha Muniratnam breathed his last at a hospital in Chennai. He was 86.
- A disciple of Acharya N.G. Ranga and former Member of Parliament P. Rajagopal Naidu, Muniratnam founded the Tirupati-based Rayalaseema Seva Samithi (RASS) as a social organisation with diverse activities in the form of reaching out to the mentally challenged, caring for the children, support to widows, tribal welfare, drug addiction victims and special care to senior citizens.
Former Union Minister and Congress leader Matang Sinh passed away due to COVID-19. He was 58.
- Sinh was elected to Rajya Sabha from Assam in 1992 and served as union minister of state in parliamentary affairs from 1994 to 1998.
- He was also the owner of Northeast Television.
