MEA sets up new emerging and strategic technologies (NEST)
The External affairs ministry announced the setting up of new emerging and strategic technologies (NEST) division. The division will work to increase investment coordination among the states of the country and also with the foreign countries.
  • NEST will act as the nodal division within the ministry for issues pertaining to new and emerging technologies.
HRD Ministry forms committee to inquire allegations against ex-Allahabad University VC
The Ministry of Human Resource Development formed a three-member committee to inquire into the financial and administrative irregularities allegations levied against former Allahabad University Vice-Chancellor Rattan Lal Hangloo.
  • The committee will be headed by University Grants Commission Chairman DP Singh and consist of the Central University of Gujarat Vice-Chancellor Rama Shankar Dubey and Prakash Mani Tripathi.
Maharashtra Govt launches ‘Cyber Safe Women’ initiative
Maharashtra Government has launched a ‘Cyber Safe Women’ initiative under which awareness camps will be held across all the districts of the state regarding cyber safety.
  • The initiative will help in educating women about how the web is used by anti-social elements and child predators to commit various types of crimes.
Haryana to celebrate 2020 as 'Sushasan Sankalp Varsh'
In a first cabinet meeting of 2020, Haryana government decided to celebrate this year as "Sushasan Sankalp Varsh". Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said if a person is untraced for more than six months then his family will be provided financial aid.
  • He also announced that Haryana Film Cell will be renamed as Haryana Film Promotion Board.
Kerala CM launches K-RERA to bring transparency in real estate sector
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched the Kerala Real Estate Regulatory Authority (K-RERA). The main aim to boost the confidence of customers and bring in more transparency in the real estate sector, Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) will be more transparency and credibility.

Gujarat: 10,000 cameras to be used for 2020 lion census
Around 8,000-10,000 cameras will be used to carry out the 2020 lion census in Gujarat, the last abode of the Asiatic lion. As against 15,000sqkm area surveyed in the last census, lions will be counted across 25,000sqkm area spanning seven districts.
  • The 2015 lion census had counted 523 lions in the state.
KVIC opens 1st silk processing plant in Gujarat
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) opened its first “Patola Saree” silk processing plant at Surendranagar in Gujarat.
  • The aim of the plant is to make silk readily available to Patola saree manufacturers to boost its production.
  • Patola is the trademark saree of Gujarat.

WHO confirms 2020 as international year of nurse and midwife
The first ever international year of the nurse and midwife will be held in 2020, it has been confirmed, providing a “once in a generation opportunity” to showcase the professions.
  • Nations of the world will unite in celebration of the benefits that nursing and midwifery staff bring to the health of the global population and work to address staff shortages.

Bank of Baroda ties up with JM Financial for co-lending
State-owned Bank of Baroda has entered into a strategic co-lending agreement with JM Financial Home Loans Limited (JMFHL), the housing finance arm of JM Financial Group, for offering retail loans to home buyers.
  • The association will create a lending model synergizing the expertise of both Bank of Baroda and JMFHL to providing retail home loan products.
FDI inflows to India rose 15% to $26 billion between April and September
Foreign direct investment into India grew 15% to $26 billion during the first half of the current financial year, according to government data. Inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) during April-September of 2018-19 stood at $22.66 billion.
  • Singapore continued to be the largest source of FDI in India during the first half of the financial year with $8 billion investments. It was followed by Mauritius ($6.36 billion), the US ($2.15 billion), the Netherlands ($2.32 billion), and Japan ($1.78 billion).

Rohit Sharma lays foundation stone for international cricket stadium in Hyderabad
Star opening batsman Rohit Sharma laid down the foundation stone for an international cricket stadium and training centre at Heartfulness Institute on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
  • The cricket stadium has been named after Rohit Sharma and this facility will provide the youngsters at the institute to perfect their cricketing skills.
  • The Heartfulness cricket stadium is one amongst several infrastructural facilities being made available for the students of the institute and will allow them to train and play matches amongst themselves as well as competing teams.
ITTF rankings: Manav Thakkar becomes number one paddler in U-21 category
Paddler Manav Thakkar has become the number one paddler in the U-21 category, the latest International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings revealed.
  • The 19-year-old has jumped nine places to take the pole position. Recently, the paddler has won the U-21 men's singles title at the ITTF Benemax-Virgo North American Open.

Govt appoints AIIMS' Prof Suresh Chandra Sharma as first chief of NMC
The chief of Delhi AIIMS' ENT head-neck surgery department, Professor Suresh Chandra Sharma, was  appointed the chairman of National Medical Commission, the new medical education regulator to replace scam-tainted Medical Council of India, according to a Personnel Ministry order.
