Manipur's Phayeng Village gets India's 1st Carbon-Positive tag
A small village, Phayeng, in the North Eastern state of Manipur, has been tagged as India’s first carbon-positive settlement. It is a first of its kind project in the South Asian country. The transformation was done using funds under National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC), a central scheme to support adaptation to climate change impact in various states.
- A village is given the tag of carbon-positive settlement if it cuts off more carbon than it emits to reduce formation of greenhouse gases and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Tamil Nadu renames Chennai rail station after MGR
The Tamil Nadu government has renamed the iconic Chennai Central Railway Station as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MGR Central Railway Station. The station was renamed after the receipt of 'no objection' from the Union Home Ministry.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Chennai Central Railway Station would be renamed after late Chief Minister and AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran.

MENA World Economic Forum kicks off in Jordan
The World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) 2019 kicked off in Jordan with over 1,000 participants from more than 50 countries. The 17th WEF meeting in the region called for united efforts to address the most pressing challenges of the area.
- At the opening ceremony, King Abdullah II of Jordan said it takes a broad partnership to create a platform for economic growth.

The genius of K L Saigal, his timeless compositions and the golden era of Indian cinema have been brought alive in a book on the legendary singer. Kundan: Saigal's Life & Music, authored by documentary filmmaker and former DDG of Doordarshan Sharad Dutt, has been transcreated in English by Jyoti Sabharwal of Stellar Publishers.
- Dutt won the National Award (Swarna Kamal for best book on cinema) in 2005 for the original book in Hindi.
OBITUARIES
Dubbing artiste Anandavally passes away
Dubbing artiste and actor Anandavally, through whose voice female leads in Malayalam cinema spoke through much of the 1980s, passed away in Thiruvananthapuram.
- Anandavally was known for her mastery in bringing subtle variations to her voice texture depending on the character, a quality which enabled her to provide voice to multiple characters in the same film like in the case of Bharatham and Santhwanam.
Popular Tamil scholar Silamboli Chellappan passes away
Well known Tamil scholar and an orator Silamboli Su Chellappan (91) passed away due to age-related ailments at his residence at Tiruvanmiyur in Chennai.
- He also served as Director of Tamil Nadu government’s Tamil development department and Director of publications, department of Tamil University in Thanjavur.
