Ladakh celebrates 'Losar' the traditional new year with symbolicperformances in a low key affair Ladakh is celebrating, Losar, the traditional new year on January 3,2021.
- Losar is being celebrated by Buddhist Community in the region with elaborated symbolic festivities in the name of God and Goddess.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The sports university, established at a cost of Rs. 700 crore.
- Mr. Modi said, youth is the shaper and also the leader of New India. He said, our youth today have the heritage of antiquity coupled with the sense of modernity.
- The sports university will be equipped with modern and state of the art sports infrastructure including synthetic hockey ground, football ground, basketball / volleyball / handball / kabaddi ground, lawn tennis court, gymnasium hall, synthetic running stadium, swimming pool, multipurpose hall and a cycling velodrome.
reading campaign - Padhe Bharat Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched a nationwide 100-day reading campaign - Padhe Bharat.
- The Campaign is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 which emphasizes the promotion of joyful reading culture for children by ensuring the availability of age-appropriate reading books for children in their mother tongue, regional and local languages.
- The reading campaign aims to have the participation of all stakeholders at the national and state level including children, teachers, parents, community, and educational administrators.

Srilanka to go bankrupt by 2022 with record-high inflationSri Lanka is facing a deepening financial and humanitarian crisis with fears it could go bankrupt in 2022 as inflation rises to record levels, food prices rocket and its coffers run dry.
- The meltdown faced by the government, led by the strongman president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, is in part caused by the immediate impact of the Covid crisis and the loss of tourism but is compounded by high government spending and tax cuts eroding state revenues, vast debt repayments to China and foreign exchange reserves at their lowest levels.
China's biggest city and a global financial hub, Shanghai is going to extend a new driverless and longest metro line.
- With the latest inclusion of metro lines, the total length of Shanghai's metro network will extend to 831 km, continuing to be the longest in the world.
- Apart from making a record of the world's largest metro network, the city will also get two fully driverless metro lines, taking the total number of such automatic lines to five in the city. The fully automatic lines will contribute 167 km to the total length of the metro network established in the city.

Compound annual growth rate of digital transaction gone up by 50%: GovtGovernment has said that the compound annual growth rate of digital transaction has gone up by fifty per cent. Electronics and Information Technology Ministry said, the number of digital transactions has increased from one thousand 85 crore rupees in 2016-17 to five thousand 554 crore in 2020-21.
- Recognizing the importance of a cashless economy, the government announced setting up of DigiDhan Mission with a target of two thousand 500 crore digital payment transactions during the Financial Year 2017-18 through Unified Payment Interface, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data, Aadhaar Pay, Immediate Payment Service and Debit cards.
- In the last financial year, the mission was given a target of five thousand 500 crore digital payment transactions, which it has surpassed achieving five thousand 554 crore transactions.
BUSINESS & ECONOMY
GST collection in Dec 2021 over Rs 1 lakh 29 thousand crThe gross Goods and Services Tax, GST revenue collected in December 2021 is over one lakh 29 thousand crore rupees.
- Of which, CGST is 22 thousand 578 crore rupees, SGST is 28 thousand 658 crore rupees, IGST is 69 thousand 155 crore rupees and cess is nine thousand 389 crore rupees.
- The revenues for the month of December 2021 are 13 percent higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year.

- PM Abdalla Hamdok, a former UN official seen as the civilian face of Sudan's transitional government, was reinstated in November amid international pressure in a deal that calls for an independent technocratic Cabinet under military oversight led by him.
- That deal, however, was rejected by the pro-democracy movement, which insists that power be handed over to a fully civilian government tasked with leading the transition.
