Single-use Plastic Items Like Candy Sticks, Plates, Cups to Be Banned from July 1, 2022: GovtThe Centre has notified the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021, prohibiting manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of identified single-use plastic (SUP) items, including candy sticks, plates, cups and cutlery, from July 1, 2022.
- The thickness of plastic carry bags will be increased from 50 microns to 75 microns from September 30, 2021, and to 120 microns from December 31, 2022, according to the notification dated August 12. This will also allow the plastic carry bags to be reused.
- Non-woven plastic carry bags should not be less than 60 gram per square metre (GSM) with effect from September 30, 2021, the notification said.
The Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan said it has introduced a scheme to provide interest-free loan up to ₹50,000 to street vendors, people in the age group of 18-40 years working in the service sector and unemployed of urban areas hit by Covid-19-induced financial crisis.
- The scheme is aimed at financially supporting and encouraging street vendors, youths providing services in informal sector such as hairdressers, rickshaw pullers, potters, carpenters, cobblers, masons, tailors, painters, plumbers, electricians etc. for self employment.
- Five lakh beneficiaries will be given loans under the scheme on the first come first serve basis. They will get interest free loan up to ₹50,000 without guarantee in one year, the government said.
- The state government further said the scheme will be applicable for one year and loans can be sanctioned till March 31, 2022. The loan moratorium period will be three months and loan repayment period will be 12 months

Indian Navy takes part in US Navy-led SEACAT exercises in SingaporeThe Indian Navy participated in the U.S. Navy-led Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT) military exercise in 9, to demonstrate its maritime manoeuvres.
- The main objective of SEACAT 2021 was to enhance the interoperability and shared maritime security concerns and preserve rules-based international order.
- The exercise comprised approximately 400 personnel and 10 ships.

IIFL Finance partners with FinBox to offer digital credit products to merchantsIIFL Finance has partnered with Bangalore and Gurgaon-based FinBox to offer innovative digital credit products to its merchants.
- The investment services company will offer digital credit avenues to its merchants, B2B e-commerce traders, using FinBox’s embedded buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) and working capital credit products.
- Through this partnership, IIFL and FinBox will disburse ₹1,000 crore in loans over the next 2 quarters, through a completely digital model.

Retail inflation eases to 5.59% in JulyRetail inflation based on consumer price index (CPI) eased to 5.59 per cent in the month of July as against 6.26 per cent in June, government data showed.
- While, factory output based on index of industrial production (IIP) grew 13.6 per cent year-on-year in June on back of good performance by manufacturing, mining and power sectors.
- According to the data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), inflation in the food basket slowed down to 3.96 per cent in July from 5.15 per cent in the previous month.

Unmukt Chand, India's 2012 U19 World Cup-winning captain, retiresUnmukt Chand, India's 2012 U-19 World Cup-winning captain, announced his decision to retire from all forms of cricket at the age of 28.
- Unmukt, who was pitted to be the next big thing of Indian cricket like his U19 predecessor Virat Kohli, played 67 first-class games, scoring 3379 runs at an average of 31.57. The right-hander, whose hundred against Australia in the 2012 U19 World Cup final, made him an instant name, failed to live up to his immense talent.
- He represented Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians in the IPL without much success.
130th Edition of Durand Cup Football Tournament is scheduled to be held at Kolkata, West Bengal from 5th of September to 3rd of October this year.
- Defence Ministry has said that sixteen teams from across the country, including four from the Services will participate in the tournament.
- Durand Cup is the world’s third oldest and Asia’s oldest football tournament. It was first held in 1888, at Dagshai, Himachal Pradesh.

Shakib Al Hasan, Stafanie Taylor win Player of the Month awards for JulyBangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor named the ICC Player of the Month for July in men's and women's categories respectively.
- Shakib's contributions in all three formats of the game helped Bangladesh win their series against Zimbabwe last month.
- In the T20Is, Hasan took three wickets at an economy rate of seven, leading his country to a series win against Zimbabwe. He is also the top all-rounder in the latest ICC men's T20 Rankings.
